before I retire--I have to add

Post by barbaranoela »

Thank U all that shared my sorrow with me---it brought more tears cus my thoughts went back to the times I would spend in Fall River---with all my aunts--uncles -cousins--

We had such fun---my gramps and babcia trying to teach me Polish and they couldnt even say the word in english

Watching my gramps tending his garden---walking in the back and picking the grapes from the vines and munching on them--

Taking Saturday night baths in this humungus tub filled with hot water---cus they had no modern facilities then--and that includes a bathroom--yup we used an outhouse~~~so U know we didnt sit there and read a comic book--
Watching babcia stoke the coals so that the house would get warm---snuggleing with the quilts--

The fun we had creating silly games~~~~

I even have 2 letters--1946--that I had written home to my mom and dad--telling them of what I was doing---going downtown---to buy little gifts for them--

I even remember EVA-the girl that I made friends with---
How strange to remember- in such detail-things way back---I guess cus I luved being there---

Thank U all--
Barbara--named after my Babcia Barbara

Barbara,

Thanks - that was a great post. That took me back to thoughts of the good old days, too.

Thanks for sharing. FWIW, I was named after my dziadek. Actually, I suppose he was my Großvater, since he was German.

I haven't even read the post yet and i'm enjoying it already.

I remember outhouses very well and not just at my Grandma's. I remember the Ice Box and the Ice Man from my Grandma's house. Got to ride a horse there (he was tired from working all day himself). It was a great place to be. My kids will never know such peace (I don't think). And my Grandkids probably couldn't even tolerate it.

Morning Barbara,

Boy did you bring the memories flooding back - the outhouse, the wood cook stove, the horse drawn huckster - such simpler times.

Love, Maggie
