The unnecessary confusion and frustration, of course, artificially increases the demand for anti-depressant medications, anti-anxiety medications, tranquilizers, etc., and so the doctors get to write even more prescriptions, which makes them happier and wealthier.

That is so "it" in a nutshell. Damn pill-pushers anyway. Jeez you'd think they'd welcome the hefty fees they get from doing colonoscopies.

Anybody, no matter what their age should be checked for MC if they have chronic, ongoing, constant, all the time, it never stops, haven't seen Norman in months, day in and day out, morning, mid-morning, late morning, noon, mid-afteroon, early evening...after dinner (heck during dinner) and in the middle of the night, watery, non-bloody diarrhea.....

People need to go to their GI's with a print out of the symptoms of MC. I know the big clue for my GI was "nocturnal non-bloody diarrhea".

And thanks guys, we are all in this together and it is always better to laugh than to cry.

Just read the Digestive Health Smart link.

I agree the research on the physical symptoms was silly. But the rest of the report on the social and psychological aspects seemed OK to me. Anything that alerts those who do not have IBS (let alone IBD) to these problems is worthwhile. I was struck be one shocking statement in the study:
To get a measure of the extent of this suffering, the Drossman team's survey asked IBS patients what they'd give to be free of their symptoms. On average, they said they'd give up a fourth of their remaining years of life.
I for one would NOT want to think like that. But if it is even half true this finding shows what a disgrace it is for anyone, especially anyone in the medical profession, to too easily dismiss D and other symptoms as not a serious illness.

Best, ant
Ant,

I can certainly understand how some people might feel that way, because back when I was clueless, hopeless, and reacting "to beat the band", I often dwelled on the fact that I probably wouldn't live to a ripe old age, if I couldn't figure out a way to stop the symptoms, before I became so run down that I had a heart attack, or a stoke, or something of that sort. I figured that malnutrition, and longevity, are mutually exclusive.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I refuse to let this get the better of me. Of course it is easy to say now that I am feeling better. But we all know what is lurking for us at anytime

That is why this website is so wonderful. It gives hope and guides those lucky enough to have found the website on a path (even if it is long and difficult) to getting better. I was luckier than many, because I was able to find it within about 9 months of the MC nightmare starting.

But, I think of all those millions (and I bet it is millions not thousands) around the world who have MC but have not been diagnosed. And I also think of all those who have been diagnosed but do not get the treatment and advice that is needed - and which this support group gives.

Thanks to Tex, all the founders and all Potty People!, Best ant

You said that so beautifully ant.
Let's just hope most of the people with problems are out searcing for some answers themselves as well.

 I was so fortunate to find these people before my diagnosis even came back from the lab after my colonoscopy. I had asked what they were looking for with the biopsy and was told Microscopic Colitis. Of course, I immediately went online. And to think, I resisted my husband's desire to buy a computer in the beginning. What would I have done without it!!!!

Oh I agree, I work with computers all day long at work and I didn't want a computer at home, but I gave in a few years ago.

I can't even imagine how in the dark I would be about alot of "things" if not for the internent and forums.

It has helped me get through menopause, my thyroid problems and now this.
