Have you heard of NAET?
There is a lady in my neighborhood who was "cured" from her fibromyalgia and food allergies by using NAET. She talks about NAET the way I talk to people about gluten causing their problems. (With fervor!) She KNOWS it is what cured her and she is sending everyone she knows over to the NAET guy so they can have accupressure while holding the allergen and be miraculously cured. She thinks that in a few treatments my family would be cured of our gluten problems, yada yada.
I wonder if anyone here has a good solid website or any info about this. I have read a lot of anecdotal evidence that it works! IT is a miracle! You can't really argue with someone who says it cured them. But really, come on people. If it seems too good to be true.....
Or maybe there is someone here who has firsthand experience? Anyone?

Hi NMM,
I went to a new MD earlier this summer and was telling him my story and he gave me the name of someone who does this in my area. He said he has patients who swear by it but others that it didn't do anything for. This is an MD who works in a group with other MDs and naturopaths, so he is probably more open minded about this kind of stuff. He said it sounded wacky to him but had to admit that he has seen it work. I haven't gone there yet but I carry the guys card in my wallet and I'm sure I will give it a try sometime.

Hi NMM,
We've had discussions about this treatment in the past, and there are one or two members who have tried it. As you can see by reading the threads from those who have tried it, it's hard to find any really solid evidence of "miraculous cures", but statements such as "seems to work", show up once in a while. Otherwise, their followup reports are usually somewhat vague. My impression is that your observation, "If it seems too good to be true.....", is almost always right on the money. We have to remember that the placebo effect is real, and there are always a few individuals who will benefit from the placebo effect, with almost any treatment. Note that when Polly asked for some details on the program, (in the last thread), so that she might consider trying it herself, she didn't get any responses from the members who were touting it, even though they wrote other responses, later in the thread.

If you decide to try it, please, please provide us with some objective feedback on your experiences with the treatment. After all, we'll try almost anything to get our lives back, when nothing else seems to work, but there's not much point in wasting money on treatments that rarely work.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I am very skeptical of it and I have no plans to waste my money on something like that. I just wondered if anyone had any good info (not just anecdotal) that supported or refuted it.
Here's a quote from this site: http://www.chirobase.org/06DD/naet.html
"NAET clashes with the concepts of anatomy, physiology, pathology, physics, and allergy accepted by the scientific community. The story of its "discovery" is highly implausible. Its core diagnostic approach -- muscle testing for "allergies" -- is senseless and is virtually certain to diagnose nonexistent problems. Its recommendations for dietary restrictions based on nonexistent food allergies are likely to place the patient at great risk for nutrient deficiency, and, in the case of children, at risk for social problems and the development of eating disorders. I believe that practitioners who use NAET have such poor judgment that they should not be permitted to remain licensed. If you encounter a practitioner who relies on the strategies described in this article, please ask the state attorney general to investigate."
I think that about sums it up.

I just read all of the old threads on the NAET method. I had to smile when I read Tex's comment:

That's pretty much the same comment my GI made to me when I mentioned the MRT testing. I think GIs would buy into diet as a solution to resolving MC, but there isn't one "magic bullet" food to eliminate, other than gluten. Most of us, upon eliminating gluten, find that we still have problems and the search continues.I hate to rain on your parade, but if that treatment worked, there would be practically no disease in the world, because the technique would be immediately used by virtually everyone who is diagnosed. The word of such a powerful and unfailing cure, would spread worldwide, ovenight. We wouldn't have to look it up on the web, because it would make the headlines in every newspaper in the world.
