Flu Shot and Low Weight?????????

Post by jodibelle352 »

Hi All!

Last week I had my flu shot. I've been getting one every year since dx with Lupus in 1995. I have NEVER had any reaction to getting except for this year. Arghhhhhh!!!!!!!!

I checked with the informational flyer that was given to me on side effects and I swear that I had just about every single one of them. My left arm was soooooooo sore for 2 days I could hardly lift it up without extreme pain. The day after my shot I had chills, fatigue like you wouldn't believe. I slept the entire day. According to the flyer I received it said that all side effects would subside in 1-2 days. Just as it said all my side effects ended 2 days after my injection.

What I'm wondering is this; has anyone here received their flu shot and had terrible side effects as I've listed. I'm wondering wether my side effects this year is because of my low weight. Has anyone with very low weight because of their MC, CC, LC, ME etc had severe side effects from their flu shot?

I had an anaphylactoid reaction to the flu vaccine 2 years ago, so my symptoms were different, but that reaction was the start of all my current problems. My sister had a bad reaction 15 years ago and her arm swelled up very badly - she was told to never get another flu shot. Of course I never will either.

You are making me afraid to get my flu shot tomorrow if my doc has them. I wonder if I should pass like Tex does.

I've never had one either.

My Mom gets one every year. This year she just had a sore arm for a couple of days but I remember several years ago that she had a lump, redness, swelling, soreness and the injection site was very warm. I don't remember her being as sick as Jodi though. She says the one year she didn't get one she got the flu so she wants one every year.

I still believe that getting my flu shot since 1995 when DX'd with Lupus has been very benificial. It's just that this year I had 2 days of side effects that really knocked me on my butt! So to Speak....LOL
I was just wondering if my severe weight loss I've had because of my CC may have had anything to do with my reaction this time.
I've talked with several other people in our apt. building and they've had no reaction at all except some soreness around the injection site.
Both David and I have been getting them as I said for years and we have been very fortunate about either not getting the flu or a milder case. Have not yet decided if we are going to get the 'swine flu' shot though as we both have some questions and not sure what to do about it yet.
