Home from Fall River---

Post by barbaranoela »

We only stayed a few dayz---It took about 3-4 hours--all new roads--hi-ways and bi-ways-so when I realized how short a trip it really is--I wanna kick myself in the ass for not going there more often--

Weather was perfect----and going *home* had its great comfort and yet its very sad moments--

My Aunt Joan is really in bad shape--she can barely walk--the place she lives in (well I cant even find the right words to describe it) but my cousin Mike (aunt joans son) lives with her and does the best he can-
Karen and Susan (cousins--&Aunt Joans daughters) have decent lives--
Karen's hubby( age 46) killed in a head on collision--other driver -drunk-to bad he LIVED!!!
Susie's hubby (age 45) died of a heart attack--
Karen lives with a terrific guy and Susie--works and is alone--

It was *tear* time when I saw the girls---and of course we tried to get all the years in of things we missed and the good times--the funny times we had--when I would get to Fall River-

Then we headed to AETNA ST, and I was really sobbing then---of course the house had some fixing uppers done--and Muscles is the same--a very lonely man--
I couldnt see each room,in the house cus he has the doors locked--(full of junk he says)--and said I to him---*but I wanna see each and every room and feel the fun times* I asked--
Uncle Walter---how could U do this---and then looking up the staircase to Aunt Jean and Uncle Chum's apt. was another heart wrenching sight--boxes and boxes of junk--
YES---Uncle Walter picks up any piece of peoples throw away JUNK and stores it???
BUT in the back there stood the outhouse--of course all locked and sealed--
SO---UNCLE why are U leaving that there??? He laughs~~~
The grounds are all but a bunch of weedy stuff--
I found out that my babcia had 13 kids---and my mom being the 10 one born--

This I knew---I was the first grandchild---the first to get married--the first to have gifted grandma and grandpa their FIRST great-grand children----well heck---I am the oldest~~~too funny~~~~
YES-----things change but in my heart I still see the Old Aetna street--and the humungous bolder that U saw as soon as U turned onto the street--

We spent most of the time with Aunt Joan---
Then we went to see the USS Mass-A-CHEW-sets Battleship that -naturally is grounded there-a BIG son of a gun!!Louie took me up down around--in and out--he was in his glory cus he is an old Salt----(Midway)---and there inscribed on placks--the names of all that were on that ship--including my UNCLE STANLEY-----and I found out that Uncle Stanley didnt fall over a live bomb---as the government informed my grandparents---he was accidentally shot in the STOMACH???? YES---there was something very *NOT RIGHT* with that sad day___
No-one--at that time--knew how/where/what-to do further for more info~~

Well --this was much to share--and if U all read it--thanks--
I thought to myself----*boy--I surely had a great bunch of aunts and uncles---funny--loving and all but two -- are together again having a good time~~~

In the car(coming home)---I layed my head back and just let the tears roll down my cheeks--

Good to be HOME here~~~
Luve Barbara

PSS. for those who dont know--that picture there is me with my Uncle Joe--standing in front of the house on Aetna Street!!
He was 2 years older than me--hated if I called him Uncle--in front of his friends--which I did- -and who gave me my first cigarette which made me puke my guts out!!
the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control

I'm glad you made the trip, even though it must have been hard. It sounds like you have some good memories and some sad realizations. You always do a beautiful job sharing your feelings.

Morning Barbara,

You definitely write it like it is and so much fun and some sadness to reading it. The old expression "You can't go home again" rings in my ears. Never the same.

Great time talking with you last night and Frank sends his love. We are going to get together!!!!

Love, Maggie

Ah gee Barb, what a trip for you. I love your post, it did sound like a very emotional trip for you. I always wondered who was with you, assumed it was you, in your avatar picture.

My husband was on the USS Midway during Viet Nam.

Glad you are back safe and sound.

Maggie, ain't it the truth. Any good writer can make someone laugh, or cry, but Barbara can do it with a lot fewer words than anyone else. When you read Barbara's words, virtually every sentence sends your emotions on a roller coaster ride, and you feel as if you are right there, experiencing it right along with her. She is truly an undiscovered artist with words.

Tex,

I totally agree with you on that. As I read her post I was laughing one minute and grabbing the tissues the next.
