More Restaurant Experiences

We went out for breakfast this weekend with our two DDs. I ordered my usual ham, hash browns and tomato skillet. An omelet arrived. Oops. Waitress checked my order, brought back the skillet with eggs on top, slathered with cheese. I stared at the second offering and began to get teary-eyed. Sometimes it's just too much to deal with. My DDs began explaining that I can't eat eggs or cheese.

The third time was a charm and the manager came to the table to apologize and tell me that my meal would be free.

We also stopped at an Italian restaurant called Maggiano's on our way home from my MIL's funeral. The chef came to our table and tailor-made my meal. It had corn pasta, a plain marinara sauce, chicken breast and asparagus. It tasted fine and I felt somewhat normal. Next time I'll bring some of my homemade GF bread, and eat it with olive oil.

That's what makes it so tough for people new to the diet, when they try to eat out. After they keep running into problems, some of them will probably just cave in, and eat it. :sigh:

Glad you finally got some breakfast that worked.

That Maggiano's restaurant sounds like a good bet. Thanks for the report.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Morning Gloria,

Boy does your story ring a bell. This year vacation at the Outer Banks was deemed - since we were with friends - to be a non-cooking vacation. I was in tears a number of times. Just didn't get teary eyed - total tears. We are going again on Thanksgiving and will be making a couple of my own meals.

Maggiano's is supposed to be great.

Love, Maggie

Having two restaurants that cater to food intolerances & allergy's makes me sad when I read this. It is so easy to get it right the first time if the server really cares to listen. It really starts with a good server to relay what is needed to the chef in the kitchen. Hopefully the manager had a talk with him or her. We have a Maggio's in Denver that we always drive past on the way to games ect. I've often wondered if its any good, ours is a huge building! Glad you finally got to eat a Breakfast Gloria!

btw we had our local celiac chapter in for their final dining out gluten free club for dinner at one of our restaurants last night (they stop right before the holidays and then start up again in February). I asked for a full report today since I couldn't stay because of a mtg. Keeping my fingers crossed that ALL were happy. We do a good job but 20 at once with different intolerances is always doable but honestly challenging as well! My chef was very confident tho so I'm sure all was fine.
