problems with corn
In the beginning I was so optimistic about the remission of my CC. The bedusonide is still working very well and still on only one pill a day. No D, that is not the problem. I am also gluten free now for 5 weeks now and depending on the test results of enterolab all with abandon other ingredients if necessary.
But (yes here is the "but") with my colon is not going fine at all. The main problem, cramping. Today is really bad. I am not ill and can do all the things I want, but it feels so uncomfortable. My idea is that this is all caused by corn. I mentioned this before in an earlier message I guess. I know I can't stand corn (when it looks like real corn). Give my gas, cramp, pain, but no D. Before I was gluten free I almost never eat corn of food didn't contain any corn and corn flower (rather a coincidence than choice). But since I start eating gluten free food, lots of food contains corn or derivates made of it (almost anything that replaces bread, cookies, pasta).
Maybe I am bit long in my message before I come to my point. What I am trying to say, my first idea was that the corn was just irritating my bowel causing the problems as cramps pain etc. But now it looks like, also as an ingredient of other things, like gluten free crackers of pasta, give my bowel problems. So of course I stopped eating anything with corn or corn flower in it. But still I am not okay today. I looked at the things I had eaten yesterday and one of the sauces I used has corn starch in it (hope the right word come out of the dictionary). Could even that course problems than I ask myself and wonder about this.
Does anyone has any experience with this? With corn or maybe with another food type. I mean than that the slightest tiny amount can make you sick, not only corn but also derivates made of it. Is there any scientific explanation for it? Do more MC sufferers have this with corn or something else?
Any response on the question would make me very happy. I am really struggling with this and looking for answers/experiences of others.

Sorry to hear that you are having these problems. Yes, there are several of us who react to corn, (maize), and all it's derivatives, including corn starch, corn oil, and corn syrup. Most soft drinks, (and many foods), contain high fructose corn syrup as the sweetener. According to the "experts", corn oil does not contain any corn protein, (zein), after refining, but most of us who react to corn, also react to corn oil.
I can eat any corn products now, but when I was healing, for a year or two, I had to avoid all forms of corn. Sorghum flour also caused problems for me, (sorghum is very close to corn, in it's chemical composition).
The cramps may be due to constipation. Some people with MC have alternating D and C, (I was one of those, when I was reacting), and a few people have no D at all - only C.
Not only is it very uncomfortable, but the cramps may indicate that you are still having inflammation.
Here is a list of ingredients that can be made from corn. Not all of these items are always made from corn, though. Sometimes manufacturers change feedstock, depending on the price of the raw materials, (but corn is usually the cheapest source), and sometimes products in various countries, are made from different sources.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Harma, I also believe that I have a sensitivity to corn. Others on this Forum have also mentioned a corn sensitivity, and hopefully some of them may add their comments. A common pattern is that as you eliminate foods like gluten and dairy from your diet, other food sensitivities show up that were somewhat masked by the gluten and dairy. My Enterolab results showed sensitivities to gluten, dairy, soy and yeast. After eliminating them from my diet, I felt good for a few weeks and then started getting worse. After some investigation, I determined that corn was the problem. I've actually found it more difficult to eliminate corn than soy, because corn products are everywhere. It's a real problem with vitamins, acetominophen and other drugs, because cornstarch is such a common ingredient. However, with a bit of searching and help from others in the Forum, I've found good substitutes for the corn-containing products. Because I'm able to control my symptoms with diet, I'm not taking bedusonide and food sensitivities show up pretty quickly.
Your Enterolab results should help you sort things out. Next year sometime Enterolab plans to add testing for corn and few other products, so that will help more in figuring out food sensitivites.

thanks for the replies. Yes tex I got the t-shirt, thanks you very much for it. I am also wondering about the brown rice thing Ant wrote about. Since corn seems to cause troubles, I bought pasta maid of rice flower (strange pasta made of rice). That is also a new thing in my diet since monday. It is made of "whole wheat rice" stupid way of saying it. So will stop eating that for a while too. I more and more just get the idea, the gut needs time to heal and will be sensitive for quite a while and till than, be on a very strict diet. And just give it time.
Yesterday I was out for lunch with a friend, and I told about my food problems. She replies must be difficult she love eating and nice food. My reply, I do too, but your mindset changes. After a while you start to care less about food and more about feeling just well, healthy, energetic and if that means changes food habits, fine!!

Couldn't read all the responses today, but switching to corn could cause you to have gas, particularly in the beginning, and as your gut is still in the healing process.
Corn causes lots of people to have gas, particularly when one isn't used to eating it.
Same with beans if you all of a sudden include them in your diet after a long time without eating them.
Sometimes the gas is related to the fact that the bacteria in your gut are not used to a certain food, and there's a shift in the balance of the type of bacteria that you have. Could you perhaps just stick with well cooked vegetables other than grains for your carbohydrate content, along with safe meats, just long enough to start feeling better. After a while, perhaps you could add a small amount of grains (gf of course) back into your diet, and gradually increase the amounts as tolerated. Cut back on anything that seems to cause you discomfort.
Glad the diarrhea has subsided and that you are not feeling sick now. The fatigue part takes the longest, by far. That comes about related to the fact that your gut was damaged so badly, but give it time, and be sure to have your nutrient levels checked by your doctor for things you are low in. Try taking some sublingual B-12 that is free of all the main allergens (check to make sure that includes all of yours), and same with Vitamin D. Be sure to check your bones with a bone density test to make sure you don't have osteoporosis or it's antecedents in terms of bone loss from malabsorption, and as you probably already know, it is also considered to be an autoimmune disease, for whatever that is worth.

I am doing much much better today. Mostly due to food changes, I haven't been eating any soy, diary, gluten (but I am off that for weeks now) and of course no corn. The food is extremely plain at the moment, blended oak (don't no the prober word for it), rice (and the white one, not even the brown rice), rice crackers, rice milk, chicken, bananas, easy to digest vegetables. The abdominal pain is over.
I hope to get my results of enterolab back next week, than I know for sure what I can and can't eat. I find it not easy to stay of milk products and I like the soy milk.
I also tried yesterday to increase my medication, I am on 3 mg entocort a day. I took 2 pills yesterday morning. That was not a good idea. It works very well for my MC, but the side effects are so horrible. Feels like being drunk and a hangover at the same time. I feel like a zombie, head ache, tiered (not psychically but mentally). I've spent almost the whole on the coach, doing nothing.
I also start to notice that people around me, start to question and have their doubts about all my food issues. Its like are you sure? How can you know that? One thing seems okay, but when you come up with multiple intolerances/allergies or just food you cannot stand, it becomes complicated. And for a lot of things I am not sure (yet) and is also a case of trying out what works and what not works.
Yes, not complaining, but I don't find it always easy to deal with the MC. I am sure I will get better, like all of us here. And again I am so glad to have found this group.

Agree, when you tell people you have multiple intolerances they start thinking you are "over reacting". But I also find quite a few sympathetic people. I give a party on a boat this Saturday (my first real attempt at socializing since MC set in over a year ago) I asked everyone to bring a food dish. I said they should not worry about catering for me, since I would bring my own dish to share with all. It was steamed rice and grilled lamb chops, (grilled with salt, pepper, rosemary and olive oil). Well it was the most popular dish at the picnic - no one eat the pizza !

tex, my idea about the problems with budenofalk (or entocort) is, when I take more than one pill at the same time, the corticoid steroid level in my blood is getting up and makes me feel miserable, it starts about two hours after taking them and disappears in about 8 hours. If diet changes will not bring enough relieve, I will try take another pill and spread the dosage over the day. I have been reading here that, instead of taking of double dosage in morning, more people take two or more pills spreading them during the day.
