Back on An Antibiotic

Post by Gloria »

I didn't mention that I'd be going to Utah to visit DD#2 for Christmas. That's why I haven't posted lately. The grands are out with DH and DD, and I have a couple of hours to myself.

I've been feeling pretty sick and went to InstaCare yesterday. I was diagnosed with pneumonia and am taking 750 mg. Levaquin for the next 5 days. DH is looking for DF Culturelle while he's out. I even got the pneumonia vaccine last year. I've read that it's not always effective.

The good news is that I haven't had any problems with MC so far. I've reduced to one Entocort per day and am continuing to eat no fruit and very little sugar, in addition to my other food intolerances. I've been drinking unsweetened cranberry juice in the morning to prevent any more UTIs. I don't have much of an appetite, so it's OK.

The doctor told me that I should change my travel plans (our flight home is tomorrow evening). I don't think so. I'm going to arrange for a wheelchair on both ends. I'll be happy to be home. D SIL will be shoveling our driveway before we arrive. DD#1 said it snowed 11.5" in our town.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and will have a great New Year.

What a bummer, Gloria.

The wheel chair is probably a good idea, since the combination of a fluoroquinolone and a corticosteroid can cause a synergistic increase in the risk of tendinitis, or a torn tendon.

Please take care of yourself. Good luck on the trip home, and please keep us posted.

What a bummer, Gloria! But I certainly apreciate your wanting to get home as soon as possible. I've often made the remark that "A dog wants to crawl under its own porch when it gets sick". I have always hated being sick away from home.

I hope you can recover quickly!

Truer words were never spoken - at least this old dog totally agrees.

Dear Gloria,

Hope you get better soon, and the MC continues to behave itself. That at least is good news.

All best, Ant

Gloria,
So sorry you are sick but can't blame you for wanting to go home as planned. Good luck on the trip and please take care of yourself.

I'm sure you are already home since I'm late posting to this but I certainly hope you are feeling lots better.

Thank you for your expressions of concern. We got home late last evening and I was sooo happy to be back in my own bed, electric blanket and all.

I think this episode of pneumonia is less severe than ones I've had in the past. The pneumonia vaccine didn't prevent me from getting it, but seems to have reduced its severity. I'm grateful for that.
