According to the CDC, people who smoke, are 10 to 20 times more likely to get lung cancer, or die from lung cancer, than people who do not smoke.
Now I'm not trying to promote smoking, but please be aware that there's a way to cut the risk of lung cancer, dramatically, especially for smokers. According to a recent study, smokers who consume a minimum of one cup of green tea per day, appear to have a nearly 13-fold lower risk of developing lung cancer, than smokers who don't drink any green tea. If you do the math, it appears that, (for all practical purposes), drinking green tea, might effectively eliminate the increased risk of developing lung cancer, that is currently attributed to smoking.
Non-smokers who drink a cup of green tea each day, appear to have a 5-fold lower risk of developing lung cancer, than non-smokers who don't drink any green tea.
Not only that, but certain individuals, who have particular growth factor genotypes, seemed to gain even more protection -- as much as 66 percent greater protection, when compared with tea drinkers who have a different genetic background. That means that, (statistically speaking), smokers who have those particular genotypes, and who drink at least a cup of green tea each day, might have a significantly lower risk of developing lung cancer, than non-smokers who do not drink green tea.
