Help Please-list of additives & preservatives AND Good N

Post by Gabes-Apg »

Hi everyone - hope you are all having a good week (meaning a D Free week)

I remember seeing in a discussion a list of additives/preservatives that should be avoided. I have attempted to find this today but have failed so far. If someone could send me the link that would be appreciated

Good News - Celebration time.
I braved eating out on the weekend first time since the symptoms started early November. It was for afternoon tea, at a desert only type cafe, that make decadent deserts, that have good reputation for their special dietary needs menu items.
I had gluten free/lactose free creame brulee with raspberry sorbet (it was divine......)
aside from the delight of 'feeling normal' and not a bit of an alien , even better when there was no evil side effects during the next 32 hours!!
In amongst the unsettlement of the past 3 months of illness, diagnosis and over the top focus to get management of this demon, romance has occurred.

the lovely gent has been very tolerant of the fact that he could not take me out for lunch or dinner, and that at first i didnt trust him to cook for me. He has embraced learning about gluten free and reading ingredients lists on products to ensure there are no other evils that will have impact.
we adapted so far via having picnics where i bring my food and he brings his food and he understands that I have eat at certain times to suit medication regime. (as i have to have the questran lite 4 hours after dinner and 6 hours before breakfast so i try to have dinner by 7pm each night) now that i am much improved i have even allowed him to cook for me (under supervision of course)

This treat was our first time to just go to a place, order something with me not taking a picnic bag with me. I was a little tentative but then figured as we went on the Saturday, I knew I had Sunday to try and get things back on track before coming to work today, i did managed to relax and enjoy it (i of course choose the venue)

Gabes, that's wonderful! The new man in your life sounds very special. Sometimes it's easier when someone knows your food issues from the start, rather than having to adjust later. I'm fortunate that my DH has been very supportive of all the changes in meals that my colitis has caused.........

Terrific news, Gabes, on both counts - the dining out and the gentleman. I hope the romance continues to blossom. So far, he sounds like a keeper.

Gabes,

I'm pretty sure this is not the list that you saw, but here is a list of the author's version of the 20 worst food addtives:

http://altmedangel.com/additive.htm

I don't understand why amaranth is on that list, because it is a healthy seed, similar to millet, only smaller. Maybe some company sells a chemical additive with the same name.

Here is another list, with notes about regulations in Australia:

http://nac.allergyforum.com/additives/p ... 00-290.htm

Congratulations on being able to have a "normal" date, and finding someone who understands your needs, and is willing to accept and respect them. Hopefully, eating out will become easier and easier to do, as time goes on.

Tex - true to form your links are perfect, your mind is better than any super computer.

and on reflection of the past 2 years of my life, prior to the MC diagnosis, i had lots of niggling health issues and i was struggling to accept me for who i am. i think the process of accepting the MC diagnosis, making the adjustments with diet etc to get control on the D has actually been good for me. i dont think i realised how draining niggling unexplained health issues had been.

i think i was blessed with romance in my life as i had finally accepted me for what i am.
Albeit the time and energy required to organise ingredients and meals is still a priority of every day

Congrats on the new love in your life, he sounds great. If he can cook AND cleans up after himself - he's a keeper.

Further update

he has definately embossed his 'keeper' status.....
he noticed i was running low on some of my essential type items (lactose free milk etc), and is aware that it is a major project for me to hunt and gather my allowed ingredients as i have to go to different supermarkets etc.
He had taken a photo of the item with his phone, so that he could ensure he got the right product at the supermarket!!

to me that is a far better present than any flowers or the like!!!
