Udi's

Picked up my expensive Udi's bread (small loaves) and lemon muffins (large -4 to a box) today after a doctor's appointment. I have not tried the bread, yet. The half muffin I tried was delish.
I was disappointed that the HFS tacked on $.79 to each product compared to the Udi's site so I did pay the shipping more or less. That was what I was hoping to avoid by getting it at the HFS. I will check out the shipping cost on Udi's site and see how it compares.
My cousin, who lives in Denver, said her Costco carries Udi's products.
Back tomorrow with the bread report. I bought the white and the whole grain.

Have your Denver cousin also check at Sunflower Market and Vitamin Cottage. Two local Denver stores. They both often have sales on Udi’s breads and Muffins. Maybe because they are so local. Last weekend they were on sale for $3.95 for a four pack of blueberry muffins at Vitamin Cottage. Better than what I saw on the net. It might make up for shipping? I am not a member of Costco so don't know what their price is.
Unfortunately they all contain tapioca. That is a big NO for me. Hope you enjoy them anyway. Think of me and I will enjoy it vicariously.

I found a quick cooking tapioca that I can use to make a pudding and see if I react. I haven't tried it yet. It's called Let's Do..Organic Tapioca (http://http://www.edwardandsons.com/ldo ... pioca.itml).

I thought I posted this a few days ago!?!
The bread was better than any of the other GF bread I've tried. It didn't crumble or need toasting. Still, I thought it would be better because of all the raves here and on the www. It was kind of dense and holey.
The lemon muffins were excellent and I can't wait to try the blueberry muffins.

Joan-
I guess "good" is relative
I haven't had "real" bread in nearly 10 years - so the UDI's was so good in comparison to whatever else is out there GF (I've tried nearly all of them - most are AWFUL in both texture and taste...) I've only tried the multigrain bread...
I like the muffins a lot - I prefer the lemon to the blueberry - i guess because they are a little different - blueberry muffins are *everywhere*
Last weekend my mom took me out to tea for my birthday - the tea house made all of my little sandwiches on the Udi's I brought them the day before -with more advance notice they can make GF desserts, too ( I brought my own cookies this time!) Our server was GF, DF SF - so she was so great about telling me what I *could* have!

Picked up the Udi's white and multi-grain breads today.
Haven't done the taste test yet.
Will tomorrow.
The woman that runs the food intolerance items at my local HFS told me that when she first ordered it the store sold 150 of the breads in 2 days.
It is supposed to be the most forgiving of GF breads as far as leaving it out on the counter or freezing, thawing and refreezing.
I'm pretty hooked on the Artisan bread recipe, so we'll see.
Hoping the Udi's will be a good one for when we travel.

"What the heart gives away is never gone ... It is kept in the hearts of others."
I paid $5.79 a loaf.
Had the whole grain tonight, plain.
No taste.
I know it's all the rave, but I have 2 scratch bread recipes that surely beat it!
Udi's will be fine for those who have no interest or time to bake their own.
The muffins looked good, but I refuse to pay over $6 for 4 muffins.
I don't have that cost in making 12 -16 scratch muffins.

I haven't tried the Udi's bread because I haven't seen it yet. I think I'll buy a loaf when I see it.
I'm also very happy with my bread from scratch, especially since it doesn't contain eggs. It's moist, high, and flavorful - but it does take a while to put together. I haven't tried to make it in my breadmaker yet, though there are instructions for that method. I like using the extra batter to make hamburger buns.
