Checking In On All Of The Snow Bunnies!!
Barb, Polly, Maggie, Mars & all others dealing with record breaking snowfalls.
Everybody okay?????
The heavy snow has calmed here, but we are getting the fine slippery snow now and later winds are to pick up causing much blowing & drifting.
Nothing compared to some of you.
Stay Safe & Warm.
Love
Dee

Hi Dee!
We have about another foot of snow on top of the 25 plus inches from last weekend. Wind gusts 35-40 mph for at least 3 hours, so it's officially a blizzard. It's supposed to snow heavily for another 3-4 hours and then light snow tonight.
I have never seen this much snow.
Luckily, we have not lost power, although many have. Thanks so much for checking up on us! Stay warm and safe, all snowbunnies.
Love,
Polly

In Northern Virginia, we got about 2" of snow, a layer of ice and another 10" of snow, so we're up to about 3 feet since Friday. I spent the weekend up with my parents northwest of Baltimore where they got about 3 feet over the weekend and got another 2 feet yesterday, so they're up to 5 feet of snow! Good thing we cleared off the roof Monday. It takes me back to my Antarctic days!
I don't really want to, but I'm going to have to hit the road late this afternoon or early tomorrow. My sister is being released from the hospital up about 20 miles north of Baltimore tomorrow after a few weeks (so she really wants to come home) and I need to go get her. I'd like to get to my parents' this afternoon if conditions allow because my although I have all wheel drive on my CR-V, my sister's 4-wheel drive truck is much heavier and better in this stuff. When I came home Monday, I did not expect to find 6" sheets of ice still on I-95 and the Capital Beltway with all the plows that were out over the weekend, but that's what I found. I'm hoping with the sun out and temperatures a little above freezing that they'll be a little better this time.

Sorry all late on this one.
Almost 28" of new snow and we are just trying to deal with all of it. Working remotely from home but hating I can't get to all my software. We are starting to truck snow out of building we own and lease to tenants since we cannot plow anymore.
Here at home it is just unbelivable. Frank standing next to the snow piles by the house and at 5'8" he is dwarfed. I am so sore from shovelling.
Possible 6" more on Tuesday. Good Grief as Charlie Brown would say.
Love, Maggie

Another snowbunny reporting in!
We have had 80" of snow so far this winter - our yearly average is 18" (St. Paul, MN only averages 53"!).
Karen, I live north of Balto., so I have been in that hardest-hit area too. How was your trip? I'll bet it took forever - even many of the main roads had only one lane open when you left. Mags, we have a pile that's taller than I am, too! But not hubby - he's 6'6".
Love,
Polly

Well, I just made it back home. I was able to get up to my parents' Thursday afternoon and the roads were really very good, especially with the low volume of traffic. The last couple of miles to my parents' house was the biggest problem. The road is closed just past their house for bridge reconstruction, so they're not exactly high on the plow list at the moment, but they did have one swipe. A couple of the local farmers were out trying to keep the drift areas open. I was able to get my sister home to my parents' on Friday and spent the weekend up there with them. Aside from a cold we all seem to be sharing, everyone is doing fine - yea!
Coming back down to the northern Virginia/DC area today, I was disappointed with the lack of progress on many of the roads since last Thursday. Many of the snow emergency routes in Alexandria which are usually two lanes plus a turn lane in each direction are still only one lane plus maybe a partial lane in each direction. Most of the roads are in desperate need of pot hole repair and many are probably going to have to be completely repaved because the pot holes are so bad. And to top it off, more snow in the forecast for tomorrow! At this rate, I'll need skis and a snowmobile instead of a car!
In the midst of all this, I did go out and play a little like I haven't done since I was about 9 or 10 years old. With so much snow and the daily freeze and thaw, there's a nice thick ice layer on top of the snow that you can walk on up high for a bit. Of course, that is until you run across a thin spot and sink down in only to have to dig out your boot.
Well, better go. Hope everyone else is thawing out well!

I'm always a day late and a dollar short...............
We are snowing again..........expecting another 4-8 inches within 24 hours and still have most of the snow on the ground (12 inches or so) from the last storm.
The news showed a 40 car pile-up on the interstate earlier today....didn't hear of any serious injuries = Dee - did you hear?
I am safe at home and don't need anything from the store so I guess I'll just RELAX!
Love and very warm hugs to all,
Mars
