Going out to dinner....
Since Bev stated that she & DH went out to dinner last night, I decided to go on strike, just for 1 night, and go to my favorite steak house where they know me.
It will feel good to get out since being stuck in here from all of the snow.
Sure hope all of it doesn't thaw at once or some us might be seeing each other in other states in canoes going by.....
I know Whee my daughter lives in Iowa, they already have concerns of flooding. Sure hope not since alot of places haven't recovered from the last flood.

Our dinner was excellent!
It was just a very nice, relaxing one.
I ate a 12oz. strip steak (Jack's eyes got big as saucers when he watched me devour it)
, a plain baked potato, ( I always have my butter in my purse), and a great dinner salad with red wine vinegar/oil..
I'll tell ya, the smell of their dinner rolls is a killer. I feel like I could put my whole face in the bread basket!!!
But I look one time at them and never look again thru the whole meal.
The assistant manager approached our table and we chatted for about 10 minutes. She's such a great young woman. She can relate to my intolerances because her best friend's Mother has celiac...
Ahhhh! Felt nice to have someone wait on me for a change....

Dee, I am so happy to be the instigator of your night out! For our first attempts, it seems like Mexican is a good choice--no need to avoid bread, sandwichs, etc. As I mentioned, the owners, a couple from Mexico, were confused about the term "masa flour". As you replied, it is not wheat flour, it is corn flour. We actually found a lot to choose from as long as I stick to corn tortillas, avoid cheese, cream sauces, sour cream, etc.
We found "Puerco Adobado" that is just grilled pork sirloin, salsa, avocado, beans,(you can usually order whole beans rather than the refried that have cheese) rice and corn tortillas. I think fajitas would qualify, although you'd want to check what oil they use to cook it in.
I was given the wrapper for the corn tortillas, and will contact the supplier via email with a question about the masa flour. That way, when I get the reply we are all pretty sure I will be getting, I can print it out and the restaurant can have the copy available to show other diners who want to avoid gluten.

Bev,
Yes, definitely check out the oil that they use because most use soybean oil.
Same with the fajita vegetables, if they use an oil. Definitely no flour tortilla.
Is their soy in the corn tortillas???
Just checking.

There is no soy in the tortillas. Ingredients:Stone ground white corn masa flour and a trace of lime water, cellulose gum and/or guar gum as a preservative (fumaric acid, sorbic acid, calcium propionate and sodium propionate). I don't like all those preservatives, but you should have seen the ingredient list for corn tortillas that Wal Mart had. My natural foods market has a corn tortilla that is organic, and has only corn and lime, really good. Buenanatural brand, Albuquerque.
However, duh, suprised nobody commented on this: salsa, spicy foods, taken into a recently problematic tummy--not good. All the hundreds of posts I've been reading, I should have known better. I was so excited to find something I could eat after losing 4 pounds in a week after I started the GF, SF, DF, and mostly egg and yeast free as well, that I didn't use my brain. It is possible there was something else I shouldn't have had, but the "spicy" makes sense. Live and learn! Bev

Hi Bev,
I still don't do spicy, salsa type foods..
I think they would be an irritant to even people with normal tummies!!
Same with beans! The fiber, etc.., would bother me.
We are all so different in how we react to all of the different food items.

You know, I always wondered about that, because I never really stopped eating chilis, and Tabasco sauce, etc., while I was recovering, as long as the ingredients appeared safe. They didn't seem to bother me.
