Platelet Count Update

Hi All,

I went by the hospital and had another blood draw for a CBC, yesterday, and a few minutes after 8 am this morning, my doctor called me to let me know that my platelet count is back down in the normal range. I'm kind of surprised that it dropped so much in only a week's time, but I'm certainly glad to see that issue behind me, since I have no desire to try to intervene with either bone marrow or spleen issues.

As far as I'm aware, that was the only obstacle standing in the way of a "smooth" recovery, so I should "have it made", now. I have a followup appointment at the general surgery desk, at the hospital, tomorrow, to check the progress of the incision, stomas, etc., and one of the questions I have is, "when can I go back to work?", so I must either be feeling pretty well, or I'm losing my mind.

My platelet count went down to 339, so it made a huge correction, in just one week, (normal reference range, 130-400 K/uL). My white count went way down, too, from 10.49, (two weeks ago), to 7.58, this week, (normal reference range, 4.5-11.0 K/uL). RBC and hemoglobin are still low, but slowly increasing, and lymphocyte percentage is still below range, but also steadily increasing.

Eosinophils and basophils were high, two weeks ago, at 2.51 and 1.648, respectively, (normal reference ranges, 0-2%, and 0-1%), respectively, and they are now significantly higher, at 5.21 and 1.709, respectively. I don't think that's anything to be particularly concerned about, though. I had an appointment with my GP, yesterday afternoon, and I had a long discussion with him, about a lot of things, but I forgot to ask about these numbers. Historically, my eosinophil level is almost always elevated, and he always attributes that to allergies, etc., and downplays the significance.

I got a copy of my operative report, and the surgical pathology report from him, and found them to be be extremely interesting, (at least, the operative report was a real eye-opener). I plan to post that information, but it will take a while to do that, and I've got a few things I need to do before going to the hospital for a checkup on the healing progress, so I'll have to post that later.
