new drug?

Post by IDontGiveA »

Thought this article might be of interest....

Versions of the drug are already being tested for psoriasis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and they’re thought to hold promise for rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis as well. “The number of diseases potentially affected is huge,” Herold says.

Very interesting, and another case where genetic testing could likely warn people in advance of their losing their ability to ever be cured.

Thank goodness stem cell research has resumed in the US again and that it was never banned in most countries.

I saw that article as well..... TK (the keeper) has psorisis. and there have been a couple of meds released in the past 6 months here in australia.

a bit like our med options, long term use has its ramifications. so it is a matter of choosing the better evil.

interestingly with this article, the researchers are getting closer to treating the cause of the issue, not just treating the symptoms.

Don't know if you've seen this film, Gabes: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1244659/

It was shot here where I live and the hospital where much of it is filmed and ironically is MY provider, that has failed me at every turn, has turned out to be pivotal in recent research on the disorder this movie is about. The doctor played by H. Ford seems to be very similar to Herold, in that he has given much of his life to find answers via research w/very little resources other than sheer devotion and a belief that he was headed in the right direction.

Ford is a bit melodramatic and stereotypical in his performance but the underlying message about how research is "decided upon" is pretty revealing. I liked the film and I think it is worth seeing so that people understand how all this works when drug companies are involved - it's all about money.
