for those having a flare, bad day or bad week

Post by Gabes-Apg »

for those that are having a flare, or having a bad day, or having a bad week,,,,,,

All we have is the NOW
the measure of our peace of mind and the measure of our personal effectiveness are determined by how much we are able to live in the present moment.
Disregard what happened yesterday, and disregard what may or may not happen tomorrow. NOW is where you are, the key to happiness and contentment must be focusing our minds on the present moment.

Being happy can be hard work sometimes.
you have to hang onto the good stuff and throw out any garbage
one person sees a beautiful view another sees the dirty window. you choose what you see and you choose what you think

Soooooo true Gabes. Have you read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle? Takes the concept you describe into much greater detail and is a great read, albeit a bit heavy at times. The author was suicidal at one point in his life and had a complete transformation by embracing the "now". Once we fully grasp that concept happiness no longer feels like hard work, it flows much more easily.

So true. But so hard to do, with the old monkey mind jumping around saying "what if, I wish I had, tomorrow I will" etc. Have you seen the saying that goes something like this?:

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
All we have is "now"
That's why it's called the "present"!

The now is perhaps the best present we can give ourselves, IMHO.

Love and namaste,

Polly

I was getting stagnant----so I decided to take out my Tai Chi tape and began to mellow out---
Also have managed to do some of my yoga moves-----and remembered the MIND CONTROL course we took many years back---

I have worked out a program for myself and realized how much my mind and body was missing--

*sigh* (good sigh)
these discussions, sharing awareness regarding our attitudes and our mantras that keep us in the now is helping me alot!

Thank you all....

Oooops, here's a correction to that saying from yesterday:

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
That's why it's called the present.

Flows a little better now, huh?

Barb, I'd like to hear more about Tai Chi. I recall how much you liked it before. Do you think I'd like it?

Rosie, I have reviewed many books on meditation, and here is the one I like the best: "Meditation Made Easy" by Lorin Roche, PhD. It's easy to read, fun, and totally applicable to western culture. Many meditation books apply more to monks in monasteries, but this one is especially relevant to us. I agree with you about immersing yourself in a hobby or activity. Have you ever noticed how time has no meaning when we do that?

Love,

Polly
