Betty Crocker called me!!
Well, not Betty herself, but a representative. There is no soy flour in their GF products. They did a test run with some soy flour and that's what's on the website, but none of the products released to the stores have soy flour. Yeah!!

Well, I'm going to believe that Betty is alive and ticking and called you herself, after years of using her baking products.
That said, I'm glad to see that I can buy GF BC prod's w/o worry, should I need them.

I was the one who started this discussion when I pulled a GF Betty Crocker Brownie from the freezer and ate it while on the chat line last Thursday evening. I also contacted General Mills regarding soy in their products. I haven't received a phone call yet. I have 3 of their mixes here in front of me. The Brownie mix and the Chocolate Chip cookie mix say in large letters, CONTAINS SOY INGREDIENTS. The yellow cake mix says MAY CONTAIN SOY INGREDIENTS. The representative said their products contained no SOY FLOUR but what other soy ingredient is in the mixes that would have them print CONTAINS SOY INGREDIENTS ON THE BOX. Hope we can get some clarification on this.

In the mixes that contain chocolate there will be small amounts of soy lecithin - you may or may not be sensitive to this soy component. I actually can eat small amounts without trouble, but try to avoid. The yellow mix is just a warning that there may be contamination from being processed in a facility that uses soy products. The addition of soy flour would be disastrous as that would mean soy protein.

Mary Beth's explanation makes sense to me. Also, quite a few members who cannot tolerate eggs, separately, can tolerate them in baked goods, (for some unknown reason - maybe some chemical reaction occurs during the baking process). Perhaps the same thing happens to chocolate that contains soy lecithin, when it is used in baked goods.
Charlotte,
OK, I've forgotten - so did you have a reaction that you attributed to the brownie? Apparently, (to the best of my memory), you didn't react to the ones that you had eaten previously, from the same batch.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I haven't purchased any of the mixes, but I recall seeing on the chocolate chip cookie mix that the chocolate chips contain the soy. The same is true with Bob's Red Mill chocolate chip cookie mix. You might be able to remove the chocolate chips by sifting the flour and then add your own SF chips. I did that a long time ago with the Bob's Red Mill mixture.

No, I don't believe I had any reaction to the Brownie I ate Thursday night.
Reading about the bakery here on Tuesday reminded me again of the frozen brownies in the freezer and had another one w/o any problems and I am soy sensitive. I made them with the idea of taking one of them along when we go to friends for dinner so I can have a legal desert along with the other guests. I don't want to be eating them daily so maybe I should avoid reading anymore posts about these delicious brownies. I'm not tempted now as it's too early in the morning. Haven't finished my coffee yet.
