Update on Mom
Joan,
Thanks for asking about Mom in the "Mother's Day" post.
She is doing pretty good with her home therapy. She does everything he asks of her - bed exercises - exercises standing with her walker - and just walking with the walker........ and she does them very well when he is here (3 times a week).
The rest of the time her leg is sore (muscles, I'm sure) and she can't seem to remember the correct way to use the walker a lot of the time. One time she did it incorrectly while the therapist was here and I was so glad because he corrected her so I was able to remind her that it's not just "my idea".
She still thinks she should be allowed to do whatever she likes whenever she likes. Resents the fact that I keep such an eagle eye on her. At times it has been pretty bad reducing both of us to tears but that hasn't happened in about a week now. Mainly because I finally got her to understand (I think) that it isn't for forever. I've promised her that I will relax some once we actually get to Pa (which shouldn't be that much longer unless some other "monkey wrench" has to be dealt with between now and then.
Anyway, I have resigned myself to accept that she IS going to fall again, perhaps hurt herself badly again and I can't make her life (and mine) miserable trying to prevent it. I just want to prevent it long enough to get her to Pa. Then I have to give her some freedom.
I hope nobody thinks I'm hard or calloused for thinking this way but it's the only way her staying with me is going to work. If I don't, she is going to end up hating me and loving me all at the same time and perhaps the other way round too.
I love her and want to protect her but I can't justify making her miserable to do that.
Love, Shirley

Shirley,
I'm certainly no authority, but IMO, you have the right attitude, and you're going about it just right.
I love your new signature line, too.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Shirley,
It sounds like you are trying to strike a happy medium with your mom, which is all you can do. At some point, we finally realize that some things are beyond our control and we have to deal with the reality as best we can. I hope your mom can make it without falling so that you can return to PA without any problems.
Love,
Gloria

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Dear Shirely
I think it is very hard for people of any age to accept harsh realities (understandably since hope keeps dreams alive and strong characters do not give up hope). So they tend to blame those around them, especially closest to them, instead of blaming fate. I think you are handling things very well.
