We are going thru the closet---and have come across OLD records(and I mean old)---so many have to be from parents???

Toooooooo Xciting to see what we have---

Brings me right back to Fall River and all the fun---
My Uncle Manny owned a bar and grill in Swansee

I grew up with the Basil Rathbone Peter and the Wolf record. Grandfather was the bassoon, right? I think it's what made me appreciate classical music! Thanks for the memory!

It doesnt take much to bring *tears* to my eyes---

And then I found a hugh box of pictures that many of us just throw in a box----
So am now sorting them out and going to arrange them---

What do you do with OLD keys?!!!
When my dad died, in going through his things, I found a zillion very old keys. There are some that obviously were extras from old cars we'd had, but there are lots of file cabinet keys. I think these must've been from file cabinets that were replaced years ago as we certainly don't have that many now. Guess some must've been to tool kits, drawers and cedar chests, and things like that.

Guess I should just see if I can find all the keys that fit each thing we currently have in our possession, and just get rid of the others. Is this a common thing to have so many of?

Oh, and I'll just bet that alot of them had been from my grandmom's and uncle's former homes when they were cleared out. I've already had one of the little sheds in the back yard taken down, and the other one will go as soon as it's cooler and the yard guy has more time to do it. I hate to give critters a temptation to take up residence where it wasn't intended, and also, am trying to eliminate outdoor things having to be done when the time comes to sell this property.

Yard guy's offered to help me clean out the garage also, but I need to do alot first. Man who lived here first had been allowed to leave some things that turned out not to be useful, but it helped him not to have to do it since he was moving to the east coast. My yard guy may find a few things he'd like to have in there, so perhaps that's what he's thinking. By the way, how long is motor oil good? I would think that he could use lots of that for his mowers and other equipment if it's still good.

Anyway, the guy who first lived here built all kinds of neat cabinets built into the garage, so I'll just betcha those are some of the key collection.

It's a never-ending battle some time to keep up with things, so it seems. Alllllways sumpin! Yours,Luce

Hi all,

This shuttle mission has had me in knots since they started talking about it! Many years ago, from about 1970, I worked as a research scientist for a couple of years until I got the call to become a bleeding heart and return for yet another degree. I did direct research pre- and post-flight on Apollo astronauts, as well as pre-mission things with the Skylab astronauts who wouldn't fly til after I'd left the program, also we used recruited test subjects.

I even worked with one of the original seven -- remember Deke, and I once road an elevator there with Frank Borman, and we were chatting about how slow it was before I realized where I knew him from! Haha!

I was soo happy for Deke when I heard he was put back on flight status after being grounded all those years due to the murmur. He was an engineer, and occasionally, even fixed some of our equipment. Incidentally, his hair turned completely gray in one year's time.

Anyway, I remember how emotionally invested everyone, not only at the space center, but also, in those close knit communities of Clear Lake and the neighbors next door where NASA-MSC is located were.

At the end of each successful mission, there would always be a big celebration in the streets, and a welcome home parade for the crew. It was really like one big happy family.

When Apollo 13 happened, no one had to call and tell people to come back to work, they just began to trickle in on their own. It was a real pleasure to work there during the good-ole-days.

Did you know that the technology was developed by NASA for the gizmo that's now used to do the breast biopsies in women under ultrasound? I've seen this used on my mom twice now.

Also, there's a special insulation that protects from heat that has lots of promise for use in housing. We could sure use it now!

According to a retired engineer who worked with this stuff, the reason the foam is coming loose is because when the cold fuel is injected before the flight, it shrinks, and thus pulls away, allowing water to leak through which apparently freezes, and it's a sort of downward cascade from there.

The other night, I heard that there are already two people aboard the space station, and with seven more coming, they'll have food and water for something like three months, if I'm not mistaken.

Guess they could stretch that out, but I wonder if the problems with these vehicles could be fixed so that the last ship left could be repaired in time to do a rescue if the current one's not deamed fit for return home??

I had always heard that a Russian vehicle could be used for rescues, but then I've just heard fragments of these news stories while doing other things. Has anyone heard anything mentioned about that possibility this time?

This is just an inherently risky business, but I think these ships are just past their prime. After all, they've got an awful lot of miles on them after so many flights.

Anyway, if you pray, please pray that all will go well with the mission, and that the solution to the problem will be accomplished so that the crew can return safely home to their families.

I wish I could have been there with you - my love for old things is so great we could have had a grand old time.

Luce - I collect old keys and keep them in a very old wood carved box. They are to everything and anything. I never throw out a key.

Hi Luce!

My dad keeps keys, has a ton of them. Back "in the day", many keys were interchangable, he says. He especially likes the skeleton keys (I know for a fact that they are interchangable.) Anyhoo, he also collects antiques and many times a key he has saved will fit the old locks.

Must just be a "collectable" item for some. Could be that is why people never threw out keys. It's probably more like "I can't remember what this goes to but I better not throw it away!" LOL

Hi Barb....Mike , SIL, and I are currently going thru old photo's from his side of the family....in this last box of photo's we found some worls war ration books in good shap in the orginal holder they came in. We found corresponence from way back...we foound really old photo's of Mike and Sil realitives (look very Cherokee) It's so exciting...also a dictionary from 1942 in real good shape. Old things are soo exciting to me. Love Oma
