started LDN last night
I took my first dose of LDN last night. It is supposed to shut down seratonin uptake for three hours after it is taken, and I was awakened with needing to go to the bathroom (BM) about 1.5 hours after I fell asleep. I felt different but not overwhelminly so. Maybe just normal disorientaion from being awakened like that!
Today I am supposedly going to have more seratonin as the body will compensate and produce more from having that little three hour deprivation last night. This morning I feel calm, and interestingly my blood pressure is down again (114/76) and I did not take L-glutamine last night. I was off work Sunday and yesterday though so that might be why.
I will keep you all posted. Maybe this is too much information??? I feel a bit like a guinea pig with no one else having done this treatment, I don't know what to expect, and it helps me to be able to share it with someone, ( I won't feel so much alone) so I hope you don't mind if I keep in close contact about what I am experiencing, at least in the first few days. I am alone during the week ( no partner) as he is away at work.
thanks for listening,
Linda

Linda,
Don't worry - for most of us, it's probably impossible to have too much information, and for the rest of us, when someone gets tired of reading, they can skip the rest of the post. No one is forced to read anything here, so complaints about too much information would be rather illogical.
I find that one of the benefits of posting a lot of detail, is the ability to go back later, and look for clues that I missed, the first time around. If I hadn't posted them, I probably would have forgotten about them.

Linda,
Glad to hear you are starting with the LDN and no, nothing is TMI, I'm dying (and hoping) to see if this works for you.
Will you take L-G w/this as well, or is an either or? I intended to take both, but as it turned out, I only needed the L-G.

Yes, Gabes, things are much better today, honestly don't know why I was so grouchy and hopeless yesterday and let things get to me. I have PTSD and usually can talk myself down if I get triggered, but yesterday I just couldn't get out of PTSD world.
I was supposed to go to LA this morning to spend a week w/my daughter and new grandson, but really needed to stay home and get things done here, as my daughter is coming here anyway, just 5 days after I was scheduled to come back. I was feeling like a bad Nana, but I know staying here is what was best for all the "other stuff" I'm dealing with right now. She completely understood, but I still feel like I've let her down. I need some me time. I was scheduled to be work free all week, but this morning got booked for a job on Friday, it's only 15 people, breakfast & lunch, so I can prep it in a half day and it's on a stage so that's always nice. At least it won't interfere with spending time with my sweetie over the weekend.
It's election day too, so I am greatly invested in that and spent a good deal of time making phone calls to remind people to vote. I'm still doing that. We have a vote by mail system here, so people just have to turn in their ballots by 8 PM tonight. We are hoping to replace two City Commissioners tonight!
Thankfully it is raining outside, so I don't have to feel guilty about not doing yard work.

you should NEVER feel bad or guilty about taking care of you!
(this is pot kettle black type statement from my mouth)
your job is normally taking care of everybody else, sometimes it is hard to stop and take care of yourself
potter around the house, read a book, take a bath, enjoy a cuppa by the window and watch the rain!
and hope the election has your desired outcome
and i mean it, PM me if you want to vent, your support to me over the past 6 months has been invaluable, and i really appreciate it.
take care and enjoy your connie time!

Connie:
to answer your question re: whether I will continue with the L-Glutamine as well.
Yesterday as I contemplated taking the first LDN dose that night, and being a bit nervous about messing around with my brain chemistry, I decided to stop L-glutamine for now. I had read that it too affects the brain (see quote below)

So for now I will just use the one. After almost two weeks on it, I really didn't see much improvement and almost felt I was worse some ways ... more frequent movements. I used to be able to predict somewhat when I would be needing to be near a toilet, but since starting on the L-glut, it seems I need to be near one anytime of day or night.Glutamine, Glutamate, & GABA are all neurotransmitters which means they are chemical messengers in the brain without which the brain could not function. GABA is a calming neurotransmitter, Glutamate is a stimulating neurotransmitter, while Glutamine is a modulator of the inhibitory & excitatory activity of the other two.

Linda,
You do what you feel you need to do. I remember when I first started w/the L-G I would feel a bit speedy, it stopped fairly quickly and I feel none of that now. I'd been totally GF for 4 mos. when I started the L-G, it stopped nearly 3 yrs. of D in 3 wks. Maybe I was lucky, but I'm older than you are and have had symptoms since early childhood. I do not have a problem with casein. It's a crap shoot, LOL.

LDN isn't technically an SRI. it just initially has an effect that disappears w/in a short time. It is somewhat of a mystery med, but I considered taking it and those who have used it for various illnesses swear by it. If what I'm doing now fails at some point, it will be my next med of choice and I've done a great deal of research on it. You do have to be monitored, as opposed to the L-G, when you are on LDN, but there are no real risks to your health by taking it.

Joe and Connie,
I have a hunch that the reason why LDN works, is because the immune system seems to respond to "shock" treatment. I'm not referring to electrical shock, but rather, physical shock, in the form of strong chemical/neurological stimulation. We know that this type of response is real, because it can be done with Prednisone, for example. One of our members found remission this way, after 15 years of trying everything he could think of, without success. Within 24 hours of taking a moderately strong dose of Prednisione, he was in remission.

It's possible that the L-glutamine might work that way for some individuals, also.
Incidentally, Connie, have you ever considered the possibility that after 4 months on the GF diet, you were within 3 weeks of remission? That's certainly within a reasonable time frame for the diet to bring results. Of course, it's also possible that the "shock" to your system, caused by the L-glutamine, might have hastened the onset of remission, but typically, "shock" events, bring dramatic results within a matter of hours, not weeks.
Low dose naltrexone works by "resetting" the immune system, each time the drug is ingested. This is sort of like punching the "reset" button on a computer, and hoping that Windows will straighten out and fly right, when it reboots - sometimes it works.

Dear Linda
Not too much information at all!!...... If I understand correctly serotonin affects or is affected by gut inflammations. Some docs like to increase it because they think that depression can cause D and serotonin is "happy" for the brain (but not necessarily for the gut:???:) , but what is cause and what affect?
Thanks for any info on this
Best, Ant

Tex,
I'm also curious, since L-G is used by body builders to help build muscle, if this may be the cause of the extremely violent muscle cramps that I've been experiencing in my calves and feet. They can literally shoot me out of bed screaming. I'm taking potassium and the B vites, but still get them fairly regularly. Any thoughts on that?
Connie
I suppose it's possible that being GF already may have made my remission occur more rapidly, but I still had D and my Enterolab tests showed that I was still reacting to G. I often just forget to take the L-G for a day or two, and there is an immediate "reminder" that all is not well w/my gut. I'm down to 2 tsp./day and have no idea how long it may take before I can quit it altogether, or if I ever can.Incidentally, Connie, have you ever considered the possibility that after 4 months on the GF diet, you were within 3 weeks of remission?
