Calling Gabes

Post by Jan »

A short while back you commented on a movie about WWII. Was it "Paradise Road"? It was on one of the movie channels here tonight. Starred Glenn Close and some others. If this was the movie you were talking about it was very moving. The other one I like about women in WWII in Singapore and Battan was "Women of Valour".

Hi Jan
how are you?

the one that i saw last week was an australian film about ww1 called - beneath hill 60. Not sure if it is being released overseas
Beneath Hill 60 is a 2010 Australian war film, directed by Jeremy Sims and written by David Roach.

Set during World War I, the film tells the story of the 1st Australian Tunnelling Company’s effort to mine beneath a German bunker and detonate an explosive charge to aid the advance of British troops.[2] The screenplay is based on an account of the ordeal written by Captain Oliver Woodward,[3] who is portrayed by Brendan Cowell in the film.

Beneath Hill 60 was released in Australia on 15 April 2010. In July 2009 it was reported that there were plans to have the film showcased at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.[4]

If you google hill 60 there is quite a lot of information on the web

the first part of the film has them on the western front in france. the area where they were tunnelling underneath, according to my grandfathers war records, he was fighting on the front on ground level above them. The film depects the appalling conditons in the trenches.....

Thanks, I'll look for that one. When I was watching Paradise Road it had Cate Blancharr (?) in it as well. I told my hubbie that she was an Aussie. It made me think it was the one you had talked about. Thanks for reminding me about the other one.
