Just diagnosed with MC - lots of questions

Post by belgiangirl »

Hello everyone,

I was just diagnosed with MC this week and will start a treatment with Enterol. I am so lucky to have found this forum, because not a lot of information is available in Belgium on this disease. My doctor did not even mention anything about dietary restrictions.
If this is really an autoimmune disease, then it is the second one I am having. Twentyfive years ago, after having caught a bacteria in Tunisia and a long spell of diarrhea I had Guillain Barré wich makes you paralyzed but is curable.
I have had problems with D for years but the doctors told me it was nerves, stress, IBS, no one even bothered to suggest further examinations!
Anyhow, I have already read a lot of your posts and am sure I will greatly benefit from your experiences for curing this disease. Thank you for being there for me. :cat:

:welcome: to the board, Belgiangirl!

If you are taking budnesonide (Entocort), you should see improvement in four weeks or less, if you are fortunate. As you've probably read, most of us are controlling our MC with diet, medication or a combination of both.

You may find it helpful to maintain a diary of the foods you consume and your corresponding bowel movements. It usually takes 24 hours, sometimes longer, sometimes less time, for a food to affect your BMs. Most of us are intolerant to gluten, about half also can't handle casein (dairy), and soy is third on the list. Many of us have had a stool test through www.enterolab.com (in the U.S.) to help us determine if we are intolerant to the foods mentioned. It is possible to get the testing done if you are overseas.

We've found that most GIs don't associate microscopic colitis problems with diet and yours seems to fall in that category.

Continue reading and learning here. There is a wealth of experience and we are here to help you. Feel free to ask any questions. We aren't embarrassed to discuss our common condition.

Hello Belgiumgirl, I welcome much closer to your home, from the Netherlands. Are you a dutch or french speaking belgium? Just curious. This group helped me a lot. So I hope it will as helpful for you as it was for me

That doctors don't tell you about diet restrictions, that is normal. Mainstream medicine does not believe in the relationship gluten, milk, soy and MC. Most of the time if they give you diet restrictions it are the wrong ones like eating a lot of (insolvable) fibers, not caffein (make no difference for almost anyone here), no alcohol (doesn't also make any difference for MC). So actually you are even better of with no medical diet advice.

What is enterol? Is a medicine like entocort with budesonide in it?

Best thing where you can start with today is, to eat gluten free.

Also if you look around here, you will find out a lot of us here, did the enterolab testing for food intolerances. In case you are interested in doing it too, it is also possible for people living outside the US (I did it too from the Netherlands, worked perfectly)

Feel free to ask any question you like and againg Welcome to the MC family!!

Hi Belgiangirl,

I'm glad you were able to find us, and I hope that you can find the answers to your questions here. Unfortunately, there is no cure for MC, (nor is there a cure for any of the other inflammatory bowel diseases), but the symptoms can definitely be controlled, so that you live a full and happy life.

Welcome aboard,

Tex (Wayne)

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
