Ant:
Damn CFO's! have ditched my travel request for emirates etc
so now i am travellng air france via hong kong and paris.
air france have come back and said they can not supply my food requirements for the duration of the drip so i need to carry my own stuff and they can not guarentee what brand and type of juice they will have on board as it is all subcontracted blah blah blah
I have managed to organise pre clearance for brisbane aiport for the first sector (brisbane to hong kong)
the next mission is investigating the option of pre clearance for the hong kong to paris sector. (12 hours of flying)
I have letter from my doctor re the intolerances and statement from the airline that they can not provide my meals. Do you think will this be enough to get food and liquids through security onto the flight?
The food shouldnt be an issue the main thing is that i want to take some clear juice with me so that I can have something other than water, and should i get D while travelling, minimise dehydration.
again there is no guarentee that i can purchase suitable item in the airport
have you come across this issue?
do you happen to know what company does security at the airport?

Dear Gabes
I agree you should have no problem with the food, but they are very regimented about liquids. Once through security there are many shops where you could buy fresh juices (not sure which would be clear though). Another suggestion is you take some dry electrolytes packs to mix in with water when flying. When I fly I usually order lots of plain green tea. I am sure air France does that. If not get green tea bags in advance and just get them to give you hot water so you can make your own. Hope this helps.
Best, Ant
P.S. Are you actually getting off for anytime in HK. It would be fun to meet.!

Ant - thanks heaps for replying
the transit time is 4 hours, so realistically this is only gives me about 2.5 hours of actual time on the ground in Hong Kong
how is customs in Hong Kong? would i be able to leave the transit area and come out to the real world?
The really nasty part is that we land at 6.05am Sunday morning in Hong Kong, I gather this is not a good "Ant" time of the day!!!! nothing can be as important to be at an airport at 6am on a sunday!!!! (not sure i would do it, he he he and i am an early bird)
If post security there is places i can get apple juice then that will be aok. I think i can survive just rice cakes and water on the plane if I am keeping the blood sugars up in the transit time. and given the events of the day re the airline and the food, i was definately going to take the electrolytes on the plane with me. If the D starts then i will need them.
when we get to paris, we only have 1 hour transit time! so I will need to be well and have my energy for that.

Also
one of my work colleagues ( a super organised mum) came up with a brilliant idea.
she is going to loan me her vacuum sealer. I am going to vacuum seal a small packet of cooked rice+chook and freeze it, and take that with me as part of my food rations for the hong kong to paris leg. If i do start having tummy troubles then having that cold is better than nothing. even if i put a bit of boiled water with it to warm it up. (as of course airlines will not warm your food items.....)
i am keen to keep up my hydration during the flights and transit, as we land in Marseille at 8pm at night, by the time we get to the apartment I dont think I will feel like eating.
the other consideration, is that I am also risk managing if my luggage doesnt arrive with me (quite probable when transiting charles de gaulle in paris) that i may not get access to food until the next morning.
and the food supplies i carry with me on the plane i wont be able to take with me when we land in marseille.

Dear Gabes
You could get out into the "real world", but at that hour on a Sunday morning not much point. The airport is about 40 minutes from Central Hong Kong.... It is a rather splendid airport and, assuming some shops are open, at that hour you could have a look around.
Sounds like you have your plans pretty will sorted. What about the return journey?
