Here's The Proof

Post by tex »

Hi All,

We often mention on this board, the relatively poor sensitivity of the classic celiac blood tests, and some people reading those comments probably wonder if that is really true, or just the opinion of the poster. Well, for any doubting Thomases, here's verification of that claim, in the form of a report on a research project where the sensitivity of those tests was investigated. The conclusion was:
Serologic tests, in clinical practice, lack the sensitivity reported in the literature.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

that is very interesting to read, something totally different than the 90 till almost 100% reliability of celiac blood test they normally claim.

Thanks for posting that Tex. I tested negative last March, but am definitively sensitive to gluten. I think I will bring a copy of this article with me to my next GI appointment. I am fairly fortunate that my doctor is relatively well informed about MC, and even suggested that gluten sensitivity plays a role in this disease. He actually gave me a copy of a study regarding MC, which specifically called out Gluten as one of the key issues. This doctor is far better than my first GI.

Thanks again Tex
