I'm no longer allowed to request a copy

Post by kimtg68 »

I just called my PM's office to request a copy of my last blood work up. I am floored that she told me no! She said due to new Hipaa rules that they are no longer allowed to provide a copy electronically or in hand to patients of their own test results. They can only provide it to another doctor when requested by that doctor. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm not happy about this. This is information I allowed them to obtain about me I should be allowed to have a copy. I'm speechless

As soon as I posted that I went online to research this so called new Hipaa rule. NOT true in fact just the opposite. Your right to view or request a copy of your medical records is one of the most protected rights. I called back up to the doctor office prepared to fight and spoke with a different lady who said what I was told was not correct and that I could come up there and pick up a copy. GOOD THING! WHEW I was ready to put the gloves on buddy!

In australia it is very difficult to get copies of your pathology results

you have to have a good GP (and they are very very rare)

That's not good. I'm sorry you have to go through that. IMO it's your body and you have to even give permission for them to run these tests on you so you SHOULD have the right to obtain a copy of the results. We American'ts can be very spoiled to our freedoms. Again I'm sorry you have to struggle to get that. I can't imagine.

Kim you most certainly can, and by legal rights receive ALL of your medical information under the HIPPA act. You will need to sign a basic release form to you and that it. If you have any questions refer to this website

http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/un ... index.html

They by federal law cannot deny you copies of any of your medical records

Dear Gabes

It is awful you cannot get a copy of your results. "Nanny state knows best" --- in China maybe, but surely not in Australia.

All best, Ant
