Polly,
You hit the nail on the head with following your intuitive senses. I operate exactly the same way and when I work with people (as a counselor) that is the main thing I focus on. Intuition always guides you in the right direction - rational thinking does not.
I used to teach at a major university in a science based department. I was so excited to get this job because I thought it would be great to inteact with great "thinkers". Ha! Couldn't have neen more wrong - it was torture for me to be with such narrow minded, arrogant fact seekers who needed to be right. After meeting Dr. Fine it is so easy to see that he is an early adopter and will never fit in with mainstream medicine or academia - he's too far ahead of them.
I'm a bit jealous #52,159.

MB, it was the same for me to have the opportunity to work in academia; it has been great in many ways but I also have seen my share of the narrow minded types. Unfortunately it seems that that type of mindset seems to end up being the ones in charge. There are quite a few mavericks there as well, but because of their open mindedness and positive thinking, they tend not to worry about the politics there and could care less about becoming the head of a department or a chairman of whatever committee.
Ant regarding the moderators, they are supposed to allow all opinions to be heard and many of them do; but like in all fields there are the good and bad. The most frustrating ones are the moderators that try to 'shape' opinion by their ad hoc comments, and carefully choosing who and when they call on certain individuals. Its a subtle art but they can really shape opinions during those sessions to suit their desires.

Joe, Ant, and MB,
Your comments about "group process"/workshops reminded me about an extraordinary documentary I saw last year. It is movie-length and called "Dalai Lama Renaissance". The producer/director is K. Darvich and the narrator is Harrison Ford. It's on DVD. Has anyone else seen it?
Some years ago the Dalai Lama invited several hundred of the world's experts on "peace" to a 4 or 5 day conference. The experts were from every walk of life: politician, priest, author, historian, scientist, military, educator, etc. Their mission was to deliberate and come up with concrete suggestions to achieve world peace to present to the Dalai Lama. Of course the first few days were devoted to coming up with some kind of structure for the workshop - and every type of conference participant is profiled - the one who takes over and silences others, the out-of-the-box thinker, the one who cares more about structure than content, the maverick, the big ego, the obstructionist, etc. I'm not going to tell you what happens because it is truly incredible to watch the process unfold - one of the best films I have ever seen. It HAS to be seen!!! Definitely one of the best documentaries on human nature ever made, I am sure. And they DO come up with the best solution to achieve world peace at the end.
Love,
Polly

I heard this quote during the past week, and it seems to fit in here somewhere:
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I like to think that our board is a gathering of great spirits. JoAnn

JoAnn I have noticed that the 'average' individual here would be easily rated as an excellent individual by societies standards. I have been incredibly fortunate to meet the individuals on this site, they have proven to be some of the finest and kindest people I have ever met no matter what country they live in.
My sincerest and heartfelt thanks to all on this site. I really do not know how I would have dealt with all of this without you

Harma, I noticed not only are the "free" vitamins more expensive but they are also a lot bigger!
I just bought liquid calcium gel caps that are free of soy, etc, and they are like horse pills!!! Huge. I can only take them one at a time ( I used to be able to down three of my old ones plus a few other small vitamins all at once.)

yes Linda, especially my calcium capsules are big. I have been taking a closer look to all the other ingredients in the calcium/vit d tablets. Well for sure they are gluten, soy, egg, milk, corn and yeast free. But what kind of other chemicals that are put in there didn't make make happy too. Normally I don't worry to much about additive in foods, since I eat processed food with additives only now and than in small quantities. Also when you are on such a strict diet as most of us are here, you sometimes have to compromise in some aspects.
But my calcium an vitamin tablets I take everyday. I already found another calcium/vit d tablet where just ordinary sugar is uses as a filling compound instead of here it comes: hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, sodiumcarboxymethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose and more of that horrible stuff (It is not just the names, I checked them all, no not healthy stuff)
But still chemical stuff is added to make the pills shine? Why, asked myself than, WHY?? I don't care if the pills are not shinny, I want as less extra chemicals as possible.
