Fantastic Restaurant Meal!
Slowly, restaurants are becoming more aware of the value to their bottom line in accommodating those with food allergies. Last weekend I attended a relatives' get-together at a restaurant called Marco Polo Global Restaurant in Salem, OR. The thoughtful person who organized the group selected this restaurant because she was told it had a gluten-free menu.
I was presented with a separate menu containing only gluten-free items. And not only were they gluten-free, they were also soy sauce and fish sauce free. All I had to look out for were dishes with tofu and milk products. There must have been at least 20 items that I could eat. This included not only main courses, but appetizers, soups and deserts. And they stated on their menu that all dishes were prepared individually using fresh oil, and that all pots, pans and cooking utensils were carefully cleaned before use. When I asked about not using soy-containing cooking oil, the waitress cheerfully mentioned that the chef had a whole selection of cooking oils to choose from! The menu was fantastic.......I was torn between the pistachio-crusted chicken with raspberry sauce and the sweet and sour chicken with pineapple, mushrooms, carrots, onions and peppers. I went for the sweet and sour chicken, and it had a wonderful flavor! And not a hint of problems afterwards! I only wish it were in Eugene! A 1 1/2 hour drive each way isn't something that happens very often!
But you can all appreciate the rare joy of being able to eat out and have a wonderful meal without worries! Lets hope this becomes more common!!

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time………Thomas Edison
Gowest asked---
The 'Celiac Support group' in Phoenix has mapped out the known establishments that have a gluten free menu so their people can more easily locate these establishments. In turn, these people can then contribute their experiences with these facilities.
Of course their main concern is Gluten, so for people who may have other intolences, their needs will fall outside of the average Celiac patients (specifically gluten) interest area.

You might try to locate a 'Celiac Support group' in the San Diego area. Those folks generally will know where any/all the GF eateries are.Anyone know of gluten-free restaurants in San Diego or Los Angeles besides PF Changs?
