Nearly Norman this morning! I am declaring this flare over. :weirdnana:

Not too bad all considered, especially as I did not have to increase the entocort dose up to one a day.

Thanks, ant

Yup, it was just 3 and a half days:..........

Rumbles and slight gas night one; D three times on day one; loose a couple of times on day two; loose once on day three; "firmish" day four. I was also taking pepto bismol (4 a day) on days one and two.

Of course the next flare (whenever it comes) might be worse - we never know and it is good not to over-promise to oneself - however, I sense long term improvement.

All, Best Ant

Ant, glad to hear you are feeling better!

Your comment about flares made me reflect on the past year. One thing I've definitely noticed is that as time goes on, reactions to "whatever" are less intense and resolve faster. It's been months since I had a serious flare.....usually just a bit looser for a day or so, and some fatigue. But figuring out "whatever" has been really hard to do. Most of the time, I never identify the culprit. Was it getting too enthusiastic with the strawberries? Some cross-contamination with the bread/cheese that I was serving the visiting grandkids who seem to live on grilled cheese sandwiches? Too much fiber? Who really knows? So for the most part, after doing a quick check for the obvious, I don't stress on what it could have been. I pop an Immodium or two, and wait a day. You know, as I'm writing this, I suddenly realized that is a real sign of the healing process. My reactions have diminished to the point where they aren't debilitating enough that I really stress about figuring out what caused it. And I have enough confidence in my basic diet that I just revert back for a few days until I feel recovered.

Ant-glad your flare is over and things have improved.

Gabes-thanks for the candy info. I'm ordering some online today. There's a regular chocolate version also I noticed. Linda, you won't need to add the cocoa.

Rosie-I think I've gotten to the same place you are mentally with all this and have noticed that things are better over time. When things aren't quite right, I try to figure out what it was, but I don't overthink it anymore. Just take what I need to take and move on. Without this board, I don't think I would be able to do this.

Have a good day all, JoAnn

Hey Gabes,

Guess what I happened to be nibbling on as I sat down at the computer today? Some Bonvita rice milk chocolate, of course. Mostly I stick to the Lindt 85%, or the Sweet William chocolate, but this rice milk one is a very nice 'milk' chocolate. Bit pricey to have too often, but that is a good thing.

Rosie and JoAnn, I know what you mean. In the past year I have only had two 'bad' episodes - and both quickly resolved. Mostly I just get a bit of softening or gas, give a bit thought to what might have caused it, but really don't waste time getting too worried.

Lyn
great to hear that great minds think alike!

I am not a huge fan of dark chocolate so i have struggled to 'give up' white chocolate and milk chocolate lindt due to MC. I am not able to tolerate soy very well so that negates the sweet william.

i find with items like that, I dont look at the price too much, to have something that i dont have to prepare or cook is worth the cost! it is not as if i have it three times a day, it is an after dinner treat or a mid afternoon stress buster at work or when i am in long meetings.

After my trip to france, realising the range of products we have easily available here in Australia is awesome! and it is not too badly priced.

and I think i have got to a similar stage Joann, Rosie and Lyn, in France I had mild reactions that is 1 or 2 (at worst 3) soft runny BM's in an hour, small dose of questran and i was then I was ok (until i consumed a meal with an irritant and it happened again), I have taken the attitude i can live with this. (mindful i have not had to take steroids to get to this point) There are even some warning signs discomfort and grumbling, so when that happens i have about 20 mins to make sure I get in close proximity to a bathroom, again i can live with this. GIven how others on this site have been and how long it took to get to a good stage, i am pretty 'chuffed' with this outcome.

Morning Rosie,

I am with you 100% on your mindset of just dealing with the day or two of discomfort and not trying desperately to try and ferret out what the culprit is. If it is not something that is persistent, the stress of figuring it out just outweighs the problem. Living with this so long has made me adopt the attitude of being uncomfortable for a bit and then enjoying the good days.

Love, Maggie

I found the white chocolate today in Groningen in a local health shop, the bovita white chocolate with rice milk for quite reasonable price. Only problem I have, if I buy a bar (it's more a tablet) of 30 or 100 gram, I will eat it all the same day. As I did today. Tasted very good. A recommender for the soy, gluten en milk free diet!!!!
