PROBIOTICS HELP
While I am waiting for EnteroLab test results, I've started a GF,CF,YF and SF diet a couple of weeks ago. After ten days I started noticing, that my stomach pain was getting better. Incouraged by this, I started taking probiotics five days ago, on the basis of the logic, that this way I would make sure I get rid of any unwanted bacteria linked to my previous dietless period.
However, after a day or two I noticed that the pain was increasing, together with some bloating and gas problems, even if I only eat mostly rice and meat/fish. I have been taking this particular type of probiotics before, and if anything at the time it helped with digestion. (last generation double incapsulated multistrain type - probiotic7 by Aragan).
My dilemma now, is whether to stick to taking this probiotics for another week or so, or is it better to interrupt it right away ? It was looking like the diet started steering things in the right direction, and this change has disturbed the process. I am confused about the possible trade off between making sure my intestinal flora is populated with healthy bacteria, and disturbing the self adjusting healing proces that seemed to be on the right track. The pain presence is also a consideration.
Has any of you had a similar problem?

On advice of dietician I've consulted last year, I tried probiotics. I used for almost two weeks. She told me it could get worse before it got better. After almost two weeks I gave up, because I got bad, worser, worst. In the end I could spend the whole night on the toilet. So yes there are others with bad experiences with probiotics.
There are more here with didn't do so well on probiotics, but also others who had some benefit of it.

Hi take5,
I am another one who can't tolerate probiotics - they always make my symptoms worse! Did you check to make sure that your probiotic contains NO gluten, casein, yeast, or soy? Many contain casein, since lactobacilli are grown on milk. Some of us react to even minor amounts of our intolerances. Good luck.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Many probiotics have FOS and or Inulin as ingredients. They are supposed to promote good bacteria but as I found years ago they are non selective. In other words they will promote good bacteria as well as all the bad bacteria. I had to strap myself down to the toilet it was so bad.
Polly's remark that to make sure your probiotic contains NO gluten, casein, yeast, or soy and many contain casein, since lactobacilli are grown on milk is a very important point. I am one that reacts to even minor amounts of our intolerances.
Do a search for FOS and or Inulin to look at past posts and look at this most recent post.

Have never found one that worked for me although eating small amounts of fermented vegetables like Kim chi or sauerkraut are an easy way to get lactobacilli with out any fear of dairy.
