Bev's super vacation

Post by bevfromwa »

I would like to share my successful vacation story, a family reunion (Dave's) at the beach. Meals were pot luck, and you know how scary that can be, plus shared a one bathroom cabin with our daughter and her BF. It all worked out beyond my wildest dreams. First off, the host cousin's husband is an avid fisherman, so he had caught, out the back door and a short hop in his boat, about 50 Dungeness crabs. They were so good and fresh I forgot about drawn butter or cocktail sauce, just pigged out plain. His other catch was a batch of salmon he'd caught, expertly grilled by their son. He was very accommodating re leaving off the butter on a big slab for me. Then, I find that another cousin's wife is GF & SF due to migraines. Diet has totally controlled it for 2 years. She took me in hand and made sure everything I ate was ok, she even made special batches of a quinoa salad, and a Tinkyada pasta salad with no cheese, just for me. Then she bought a box of GF, SF, DF cookies to make sure I got desert, even though there was a lot of fresh fruit available--cherries from a relative's farm, blueberries, etc.

I found a recipe for GF graham crackers, and had made them and brought some along with SF chocolate, so was able to join the group at the fire pit for s'mores each night. Everyone who tasted the crackers was impressed.

I had been quite nervous about this vacation, what iffing, etc., but with lots of label reading and questions, made it through just fine.

Woo Hoo Beverly

Having someone who understands makes you feel part of the group and not so alienated.
It is wonderful news that you had a great time and someone made special effort to ensure that you are were not left out.

Great! It doesn't get much better than that.
