Doctors in Australia?

Post by Peta »

Hi Everyone,

This website is a wealth of info and the advice from everyone has been great. I will be pursuing this topic (MC/ ME) with my biomed doctor soon, however I wondered if there is a list of doctors/ experts in this field that are recommended. I've seen the list for American doctors on the main index.

Can anyone recommend someone from Australia and in particular the state of Victoria? I gather that there are few experts as it is all too new.

Cheers,
Peta

Hi Peta,

There is no list of Aussie doctors. With only a few of us here, and currently no other Victorians, we just don't have the data. Just go with whatever gastroenterologist your doctor recommends, and if you don't like them, ask for a referal to someone else.

My GI in Canberra is great - because he would listen to me and by the time I saw him I knew heaps anyway (and had my D under control). But he hasn't actually added to what I already know. Got my LC results from my GP when I was in Brisbane and never saw a GI other than when he did the colonoscopy. Found out dairy was most of problems by trial and error; and then when I had a flare due to HRT, worked that out with the help of people here.

Don't know what your biomed doctor is - presume you mean a GP with added alternative qualifications (naturopathy etc), or just straight alternative.

Peta
there are couple of 'wholistic' type GP's here in Brisbane
They are expensive and the really good ones have long waiting list (ie 3 - 6 months)

if you go to your local health food stores, they may have information or referral recommendations

maybe do a white pages search and then google any names that come up and see if there are any blogs talking about them, namely the mother and babies type forums discuss that topic extensively.

http://www.naturaltherapypages.com.au/n ... tic_Doctor

here is some search results from natural therapy pages
dont be afraid to email or phone any of the practioners that you maybe interested in and ask them about about fee's, services they can provide, waiting time etc.

I have been researching a means for nutrient testing (hair, urine, blood testing etc) I emailed a couple of naturopathy practioners to ask how much they would charge. I am not looking for a research of a diagnosis i just need a means of monitoring my nutrient levels, amino acids etc

One was a bit money grabbing and wanted $190 for each consultation considering the reports for the tests are already summarised i thought this was a bit unfair ie he would be doing no work!

another one admitted it would be expensive to do it through her where i just need the tests done and the results given to me and she wasnt able to do her consultations at a discounted rate but did give some recommendations on how i could do it in the most cost effective way

i was talking to the naturopath in the health food store the other day about my condition and diet and she recommended a holistic doctor that she had taken her daughter to as her daughter had extreme allergy reactions
she sait it was a month waiting to get an appointment but she said it was good as any tests that could be bulk billed were and she only had to pay for some of the tests done.
the level of testing he did was far more comprehensive than the basic naturopathic eqiupment she had access to.

Hi Lyn and Gabes,

Thanks for posting a reply. I didn't think it would be that easy!

The biomed doctor I'm talking about is a GP that also practises wholistic medicine. She comes recommended from the mindd foundation

http://mindd.org/s/archives.php/41-Frontpage.html

I attended a seminar run by the mindd foundation - it is this seminar that got me thinking more about what is happening in the 'gut' and how this relates to food intolerances......part of the journey to here. So far she has run blood tests to determine Vit D levels and histamine. Also urine test for Kyrpptopyrroles. He has low vit d (pretty common in Vic, and also he has dark skin) but high histamine and also a mild pyrroles problem. So she's put him on zinc, B, D, melatonin and magnesium suppliments. It's early days and I will discuss 'mast cells' with her next time. I hadn't heard of mast cells until a week ago, so it will be interesting to see what she thinks.

Lyn can you tell me what HRT is?

Gabe, thanks for all the advice. You sound like you've done a lot of research. Down the track I might check back in and see how you've gone with finding the right 'service' for you, in terms of nutrient testing.

Thanks,
Peta

Peta, just wanted to let you know that magnesium can cause D. Thanks to the PP, I use a spray on magnesium.
