Anybody here diagnosed with this........

Left Branch Bundle Block

A problem with the electrical impulse which tells the heart to contract. The left side of my heart contracts a little after the right side. The Doc said that something is blocking the impulse to the left side so it has to find a different path which causes it to beat after the right side. That's very "layman's terms" I'm sure.

Sometimes it's caused by heart damage or disease but since I had an echocardiogram today and nothing new seems to be wrong I'm not really worried about it. Just wondering if anyone else here has been told they had the same thing with no apparent cause.

I also have a chemical stress test this week but not expecting it to show anything.

Just curious....... If you have been told you have this, do you have any symptoms?

Hmmmmmm. Never heard of that one.

Good luck with that chemical stress test. I'm supposed to take one sometime, but fortunately, my doctor keeps forgetting to make the arrangements.

Hi Shirley,

"It's always something", as Rosann Rosanna-danna said! A LBBB is exactly as you described it. Have you had any symptoms, like a slow heartbeat or fainting? They will want to fully evaluate your heart to make sure there is no underlying disease. It is possible to have this problem for many years without knowing it, and it is not unusual to find no underlying disease. Very often it requires no treatment other than followup on a regular basis. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this will be the case with you. :xfingers:

Love,

Polly

P.S. I've heard that the best treatment for LBBB is relaxing in the autumn PA countryside while watching the trees turn colors. Sorry - couldn't resist! I know how much you miss it. Joe's photos will have to substitute this year, I guess.

 I fully intend to take that treatment next year. Glad to hear it's "doctor recommended". In the meantime I will take a look at Joe's pics every day.

I haven't had any fainting and nobody has mentioned slow heartbeat.
I can say I occasionally have breathlessness, feel some pressure in the chest sometimes but nothing disabling or especially bothersome. I looked it up on the net (of course) but was curious how common it might be.

I'm not really concerned. I expect the stress test to be fine. I go for the "resting" phase this morning.

Thanks for responding.

Love, Shirley

P.S for Tex.......... I've had that stress test before (or something similar). It was about 7 years ago. It wasn't bad. Dr. called it a neuclear stress test then. The name was scary. HaHa

Hi Shirley,

The incidence of LBBB for women is about 4 per 10,000. Not too common, but not unheard of either.

Polly

Shirley,

When I was discharged from the hospital in February, (after the colectomy), my discharge paperwork specified that my GP should schedule a stress test for me, to check out my heart, since my blood enzymes showed evidence of a possible heart attack during the surgery. Before we could schedule the test, though, we discovered that my platelet count was out of range, and rapidly increasing, so by the time that settled down, (about a month), we forgot about the test. A couple of times since then, he has noticed it in his notes, and mentioned that we need to schedule a test, but he never seems to get around to actually doing it. Since the enzyme change marking the "heart attack" was probably caused by an inadequate supply of blood in circulation, (I had lost a lot of blood), I haven't been overly concerned about it. After all, if my heart is damaged, there's probably not a heck of a lot I can do to correct it, anyway. One of these days, he'll probably get around to scheduling it. Since I'm too old, worn out, and short of breath, for the treadmill test, I'm sure it will be a chemical test. I've been short of breath ever since my first surgery, 5 years ago. :sigh:

I don't think I'd be too concerned about it either, Tex. And, I think you are correct........ if damage is already done they can't do a lot about it.

I don't remember having any side effects from the test before (about 7 years ago I think) but I had have a headache most of the afternoon....... and this is just from the "resting" part. I'll probably have another headache on Friday after the "stress" part.

I hope this is the last time I'll have one of these.
