Holy cow a shot to stop D

Post by JLH »

A person we know had bowel cancer, the chemo gave her D. She was in the hospital with non-stop D. They gave her a shot that they billed Medicare $12,000!

Besides the unfortunate fact that it provides the pharmaceutical industry with yet another tool to use to bankrupt Medicare, I can't help but wonder what the shot was, what it does, and what the side effects are. Maybe someone will discover a cheaper way to utilize that mechanism.

It may have simply been an antidote to the chemo treatment. Do you know how long it is supposed to be effective?

No, I don't know anything. I was hoping you or Polly might know of it. DH was the one to talk to the husband so I didn't get anything first hand. The man said he saw the statement.....

The bill, I don't doubt, probably was 12,000. It would be interesting to know how much was actually paid by Medicare. I'm pretty sure 12,000 wasn't the amount.

I'm not trying to start a debate here. It's just a question I usually ask when when someone mentions how much hospitals, doctors charge Medicare.
