 Thank you both for the pictures. You sound pretty happy with the addition to the family. Hope your DH has fallen in love (with Katz of course).

Not so happy now. Jazz cried most of last night. DH took her out at 3 in the morning.

The night before that she slept the entire night and had a clean crate to boot. She did cry most of the 5 hour trip home...

He's not allowed since Keshia LOVES him and loves me. He's been Keshia's handler in obedience school and pet therapy class. This is my puppy and a play mate/running mate for Keshia.

I think it's a gender thing because our first Borzoi, Tara, 35 years+or- ago was in love with DH, too.

Great pics! Good for you!

Regarding the crying, my shepherd pup cried for a week when we brought him home (and even on the drive home). We put him in a cage as recommended at night and they told us to leave him alone when he was crying. Well, I would suddenly hear the commotion stop, only to find my wife with the pup cradled in her arms like a baby. She couldn't resist, but he adjusted well. Now almost 11 years later, he only whines when he wants to manipulate us :) Can you say spoiled?

I got home yesterday to find William (my shepherd) with a cast on his rear leg and his full harness on (makes him look like a search and rescue dog). My wife proceeded to tell me he came in limping after chasing a squirrel. He hates those things. But he is adjusting well to the cast considering he also has GSDM which is a form of MS that shepherds get.

Good luck!

A change of diet may help your dog. Look at Dogtor J's sites...he's got new and old. See what you think.
I learned of him from the PP.

Hi Joan,

I forgot to get back with you but I did look at that vet's site per your recommendation.

Will has actually been doing much better lately. They learned his thyroid levels were off, so he is being medicated for that. And, he is getting Adequen (sp?) shots into his rear joints. He is acting very lively for a nearly 11 year old 100 lb. dog.

I will have my wife review the website and see what she wants to do. It does make sense that diet could affect him, but the breed is highly susceptible to MS, bad hips, etc. Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, he is a senior dog :)

Thanks

Doctors try to tell us that as we get older, we should expect to have stiff, aching, painful joints, etc., too, but that's not necessarily true - it depends on our diet, in most cases.
Imagine that a German shepherd puppy begins eating a wheat, barley, corn, or soy-based diet from the moment it is weaned. If inadequate levels of calcium and vitamin C are absorbed, what are the chances that its hips, elbows, spine, and other cartilaginous structures are going to form properly? I would say "Not good". Most people familiar with dogs know that this breed has a reputation for horrible hip dysplasia. But, they also have serious allergies and other immune-related disorders. This, of course, is no coincidence. Once it is understood that the allergies form in the area of the gut that is being damaged or coated by the "glue", it is easy to see why the trouble breeds like the German Shepherd, Cocker Spaniel, Shih Tzu, and others have their "genetic" tendencies such as allergic skin and ear problems, orthopedic abnormalities, intervertebral disc ruptures, and cancers. Once again, Pandora's Box is opened and unleashed upon these poor breeds through one basic mechanism: malnutrition via malabsorption taking place in the small intestine.

It's possible to teach an old dog, new tricks, but the most impressive trick of all, is teaching their masters to stop feeding their dogs cow feed. At least that's the way I see it.

I've learned so much from the PP for my dogs and me. I am so thankful.

Keshia's breeder fed a corn laden food. Of course, we got her off it as soon as possible. Keshia's Mom has terrible arthritis. I'm sure she could be helped by change of diet.......

Love your photos!

Puppy is a cutie and looks to still have a downy puppy coat in the photo. At what age does the downy stuff begin fall out and adult coat begin to emerge? Do you expect any other colors to emerge with the adult coat? You will have to take KatZ to Obedience school. That's the surest way to ensure that she bonds with you.

You could add the letter distinction HD (Husbands Dog) behind the CGC in Keisha's name. And very seriously, it would be so nice to see her earn a CD, or at the very least a RN. Very few of the large sight hounds are ever seen out in perfomance competition. But when they are exhibited, they are always such crowd pleasers!

Keep the photos coming.
