Boils from Entocort??

Post by Linda in BC »

Oh, great! I just found something that appears to be a boil developing on my tail bone.. I have never had a boil in my life! It is about a 1/4 inch across now. Is it possible that this could be from the Entocort? The timing does seem a bit suspicious. Or is it just "the bad coming out of me?"

Also, I read in an old post tonight that Entocort suppresses the immune system. Is that how it reduces the inflamation?

Hi Linda,

If it's on the tailbone, it could be a pilonidal cyst. This is a fairly common condition due to leftover embryonic tissue. Perfectly normal except when it becomes infected. This condition is not necessarily due to Entocort. I would recommend that you see a doc.......if it doesn't clear up or continues to reinfect, you may need surgery to remove it. Meanwhile, it can't hurt to soak it in the tub at least 20 min. three times a day.

Love,

Polly, thanks so much for that information. It is not very sore yet, and not infected, so am wondering what would be the best way to ensure that it doesn't become infected? The soaking in the tub, I suppose, would be good... what about covering it or applying alcohol or antibiotic cream periodically through out the day?

Remember that plain old hand soap will kill antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria, (MRSA), so I assume that it should kill most non-resistant bacteria, also.
