Hiya All--

OK--plain and simple WHAT CAUSES a METALLIC taste on the tongue???

I thought it was being taken off the PTU (thyroid meds) but she didnt think so---she will see me in 2 weeks--NOW I AM TEED OFF--in my opinion U see me NOW!!!!!

So I am going to call my Dr. Kozin and see what he has to say=---cus in my way of thinking SOMETHING isnt right--

Hi Barbara,

Well, certain meds for hyperthyroidism can cause a metallic taste in the mouth, so I wonder if it might be possible that it might also happen if you stop taking them. ??? Here are some thoughts on the problem:

Thanks Galahad-----it started after I stopped the PTU for hyperthyroid----
U know me ---I get Xcited right away :lol: and thats putting it mildly--yup I am sorta--kinda-a bit--well I am neurotic!!! :lol: when it comes to meds. and off/on again-

Thyroid doc didnt seem to be Xcited-----but Mr. Louie is taking over :twisted: and making me a nervous wreck with all the could beezzs!!!

But I spoke to my nurse friend cross the street and she calmed me down!!

I've had a metallic taste in my mouth when I've taken zinc supplements.

Me too, with zinc; I was just going to write that. And everything tastes funny for a few hours after a zinc losenge.

A sudden change in our ability to taste can bring us a very unpleasant sensation and it could be a signal of other health concerns. This condition is medically termed as dysgeusias in which metallic taste is one of the best descriptions of it. People with dentures, dental appliances, and amalgam fillings are also prone to this taste.

The only time I've experienced metallic taste was after I'd been on an antibiotic for a sinus infection for some time. It eventually went away after I stopped the antibiotic (and MC came to take up residence after that also).
