Do these drugs cause MC?
I googled to try to find the answer but came up short. I am currently taking methimazole it's generic for tapizole for my graves disease. And I'm also taking atenolol for heart palpitations. I am wondering if either of these two drugs can cause MC, does anyone know?
There may be an association with atenolol. Atenolol is a beta-blocker, and according to reports, 13% of people with MC had a history of taking a beta-blocker, compared with 3% in the control group. Of course, on an individual basis, that doesn't necessarily mean that atenolol will cause MC.

I'm not aware of any known association between MC and methimazole, except that MC and thyroid issues seem to have a relatively strong correlation, (we're about 7 times as likely as the general population, to have a thyroid problem), but that has nothing to do with the drug.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I use atenolol but had MC for about 6 years before I went on it. Maybe the correlation is actually with high blood pressure excaberated by stress (or how our bodies handle stress...? ) The atenolol works like a charm for me by reducing my adrenaline, I believe. Maybe those who respond well to atenolol are a certain "type " of high blood pressure patient (eg adrenaline caused) and MC coincides as another symptom of how our bodies react to stress. Just thinking out loud here..
