Tex,

If you want to try a popcorn substitute try breaking up a rice cake into popcorn size pieces and saute it in olive oil with salt. Pretty good imitation of popcorn. Sadly I react to rice worse than corn so I had to stop eating it.

Rosie,

So glad to hear you are doing so well! It gives me a lot of hope! Thanks for sharing!

Pat,

That sounds like a neat trick. I'm tempted to try it, but I'm afraid that it might carry the same risk as popcorn. I'm not intolerant of popcorn, it's just not recommended for someone with an ileostomy. With an ileostomy, the opening is rather small, and it's formed by the mucosa of the ileum. IOW, it's very vulnerable to abrasive objects such as popcorn hulls, and some types of fiber. Also, becoming plugged can be a risk, whenever any significant amount of fiber is consumed. So far, I haven't had any significant problems, but I don't want to tempt fate.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. Maybe someone else may want to try it.

That may be a million dollar idea for a new type of snack food - it sounds good, and it's probably healthier than popcorn.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
