If you have read my recent posts, you know that my dog William had surgery Friday on one of his rear paws. He had broken an outer toe (really crushed the bone) and 4 weeks of splinting it only made things worse. So, we had the toe amputated. His orthopedic vet took care of German Shepherds in Irag and said it was the best course of action. He said the dogs he cared for would dig and dig even with broken paws. Even with amputation, they wanted to keep working. Pretty resilient.
Anyways, it was a rough night as he could not walk and whimpered constantly. But we are seeing some slight improvement today. His bandage comes off in two weeks, sans the outer toe.
So I have attached of photo of William in jail :). He is a busy guy for a soon to be 11 year old dog so we are using his old cage for a while to keep him settled. Lugging him around is a chore. His harness helps but I have ordered a different one that lifts more from his rear.

I missed a lot of posts because we were out of town visiting my Mom. Both daughters, one fiance' and my sister were there, too. We even had an early Thanksgiving!
Frankly, it was good to be away from the puppy.

An early Thanksgiving, huh? How did you do MC-wise? I hope well. I am wondering what I will do over the holidays. But then again, it shouldn't be nearly as challenging for me as eating out while on the road.
I can't recall the breed of pup you have.

He wants to bolt alright, but he keeps hooking his hind legs together and tripping himself. Hence, the cage. Don't want a broken leg or hip so we grab his handle on his harness and walk beside him. I look pretty funny walking him around the yard to do his business. He pee'ed on my foot earlier this morning :)
Glad we took care of this now because it was snowing yesterday in Indiana. Ice and bad paws don't mix.

He is a good looking dude. When he was a pup, he was all black. But over the course of the first year, his black and tan markings appeared. Was cool to see that happen. His dad was black and tan and his mom was a white shepherd. So I wasn't quite sure what he was going to end up looking like. Rin Tin Tin :)

Hi Rich what a trooper Will must be. I'm sorry to hear of his recent surgery, hopefully he will be up and around soon. He's quite luck to have you around to take care of him.
Well he's wanting to go for a walk today... so his spirit is back. But he just keeps tripping up those back legs. He has to get used to his new foot, and new gait. Gonna be a while.
He keeps running us in and out of the house, as if he needs to potty, but I think he just needs to be outside. If it weren't for all the squirrels out there, I would let he stay outside.

Our girls are Borzoi (Russian Wolfhounds). I don't want to jinx it but Jazz hasn't been quite as obnoxious as she was. Maybe, it's because she is now 5 months old.
I sure wish we had told them about daylight savings time.............They are both sleeping now but I'm not.

Dogs have an amazing resiliency, don't they. Here's hoping that William will be bounding around soon. And I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather....no fun for anyone having to walk him with all the help he needs in snow and rain.......

Glad Will's surgery is over and he can now recover fully ( sans toe.) He is big dog for you to have to be lugging in and out frequently!! No wonder you are tired!
