Linda, that smoothie sounds really tasty...I'm going to add it to my repertoire! I'll bet adding some coconut milk would be a nice variation, as chocolate and coconut go so well together.....a Mounds bar was one of my favorite candy bars, and I was always trying to guess which covered chocolate in the box was the coconut one......

Rich, all great suggestions, but I too lost 20 pounds (105 5'5") and kept getting on the scale to see if I had gain or loss. It became an obsession almost. I decided to put the scale away and stop worrying about it and decided the better "scale" was how I felt that day. Occasionally at my work out place I get on and weight; it hasn't changed, but I've accepted it for now. Half the battle with this disease is accepting it for what it is. I use to get so upset going to the grocery store and buying goodies for my family that I couldn't eat but now after a year its okay. Patience my friend. Ginny

Linda,

Going to try your smoothie. I have been drinking some Absorb Plus shakes on occasion, adding some Flax Oil for fat. But your approach sounds more natural. I totally forgot about avocado. I love them. Add them to the grocery list.

Ginny,

I have put my scale away. It is so ironic. Because so many people would love to have our weight loss problem. What a cruel disease.

Tex,

I just re-read your posting about getting one's life back.

You and I think so much alike. I tell my wife all the time that if I didn't feel so poorly, I would have the world by the tail (not a goal, just an observation of the limitations I am experiencing).

Thanks for the note.

Linda,

Got my order of real coconut milk in the mail. I am thinking I can add this to my absorb shakes, get all the vitamins I need, and down over 1,000 calories in one setting. Large clothing sizes, here I come :)

Hi Rich,

I didn't know that you had actually gotten some of the absorb shakes stuff. How do you like it?

Hi Linda,

I have used Absorb for many years. I actually do like it. The recipe seems to have changed a little lately (it was better the old way). But I see it as a good, safe way to add calories and vitamins. The best flavor is Vanilla, the Chocolate. Raspberry (or berry) is awful IMO>

They make my brain feel better, if you know what I mean.

Absorb is very pricey however. And I think if you only drank Absorb, you would never have a firm BM as it is very low residual.

I had been reading all about Absorb a while back and wondered how it tasted. Thanks for the insider tip. Looks like a very good, thoroughly researched product, but yes, it is pricey. That's why I opted to buy a cheaper rice protein powder and "beef" it up a bit myself. Not nearly as effective I am sure, though.

You know, sometimes I just get so darned tired of trying to figure out what I am going to eat, especially for breakfast and lunch, and it is great to just be able to reach for that powder and make one of those drinks, and the hunger pains disappear with so little effort. I have never been into spending a lot of time and energy thinking about what I am going to eat ... eating is just a hassle most of the time, especially if I am busy working. For me, having to plan so much around food, and not just being able to "grab whatever is handy" to fill the inescapable bodily need is still probably one of the most annoying things for me about having MC and all these intolerances.

Wha.. wha.. I know. Well, there's my rant for the month.

I used to feel the same way, and it was even more frustrating when I was hungry and couldn't come up with a quick snack. Now that I'm on a 3-day rotation of the foods I eat, I don't agonize over every meal or snack. I prepare a menu for the entire week and follow it pretty religiously. I eat the same three meals and snacks every three days. No more worrying about my next meal. It's not very spontaneous, but it's less stressful. And, for me, it's working.

I'm hopeful that someday I'll be able to add more variety to my meals, but for now, I'm happy I can eat without worrying.

Gloria,

Yes, it's when I am most hungry that it upsets me. I know sometimes I tear myself away from work (on my computer) and wander into the kitchen because I am hungry, look around, not find anything, wander back to work and go another hour or two without having eaten, until once again I am driven back to the kitchen by hunger to look for something to eat. This is not good... this is how I lose weight...

Yours does sound like a very good idea. I will consider doing that myself tho now I just have find the time and energy to do the planning!!! But yes, once that's done it sounds like it would save a lot of time and hand-wringing

Hi Linda,

I am right there with you on wanting to just eat and not have to plan everything. I do cook days in advance and by the 3rd day and usually climbing the kitchen walls since I am not ready to eat what I cook. However, I always do and the planning really does pay off as Gloria said.

my DH FRank is great since he follows the GF diet always with me when I am in the room - maybe some bread when I am not around. Prefers GF pasta now to real pasta - go figure.

A microwave and some frozen snacks/meals are a real bonus too.

Hope it works for you. Maggie

This forum continues to be a gold mine of information and encouragement for me. I've also always been very casual about what I eat, and have never learned to shop and be prepared in my own kitchen. Since I lived and worked in NYC, eating out and on the go was my lifestyle. Now not only do I have to figure out what I can eat, but I have to shop and cook - yikes!!! Anyhow, I'm fortunate to be retired, so I have more time to focus on it - can't imagine how I would have managed this if I was still working. Gloria - as usual, you have wonderful advice about what to do - you're a great inspiration - thanks.

Warm regards,
Kari

I see I am not the only one who has put the scale away in the closet. I have general anxiety disorder and most of my anxiety is over my health, so when I got on the scales even a pound or two less would send me into a 2 or 3 day tale spin of anxiety. So now I just TRY not to worry about it. When I was first diagnosed with LC about 6 years ago I had lost a great deal of weight and it really freaked me out. I gained it all back and have been able to maintain it.

But there is always someone around to remind me that I have lost weight, thats always nice, not really!!! I tend to get the thin face when I loose weight so people notice it very quickly.

Everyone have a great day!!!

Linda,

I love your quote, "eating is a hassle."

It sure has become a PITA for me too. And formerly, I never gave it a second thought.
