Thanks Linda.. While it seems to be the xanthan gum, I am not 100% sure.. I will have to careful.

Polly I took a sick day today as this really wiped me out. I have not had this intense of a reaction to anything. Its funny Polly besides the GF Tim Tams, Pamelas mix and the GF Bisquick I have had no other packaged or prepared foods. I guess caution is the lesson here. Who knows why they insist on modifying all of these ingredients.

Tex, I hope you enjoy the syrup and the GF Tim Tams... Let me know how the syrup and the Maple sugar work out.

Rich, the expiration date is for August of 2011, that should be fine. Who know about contamination. This just highlights how sensitive our systems have become and how the hidden ingredients can get us when we least expect it.

Thanks for all of the responses

I just picked up some the Bisquick GF mix yesterday, makes me want to be very cautious.

Sorry you had the reaction, hope you get feeling well soon.

Dear Joe,

Sorry to hear about your reaction. There is such a fine line between being ok and the dreaded fare.

Best wishes, Ant

Joe,

No truer words have ever been spoken about this animal. It's a fine line between teetering on the edge and falling off the cliff (sorry about the negativity).

Rich your right at times this is a balancing act between what each individual can tolerate, and our choices if any for medications. This is what makes this such a 'personal' disease. We all have to approach this from a slightly different angle to achieve the best quality of life. There is no right or wrong way, just our way

MC can be a hard taskmaster and he does not tolerate mistakes very well....

made some biscuits from the mix last night, had two of them and seems to be ok, but I sure did think about your reaction.

The biscuits were pretty good. I am just a little over a week into my GF diet and so far so good.

Randy that's great that you were able to enjoy those. I will have to admit the mix made some really good pancakes... Although I think that mix will be off my list. I have had good luck with Pamela's pancakes and actually think they taste a bit better but only marginally so.

Thanks for the update Randy

It sucks to have to cross something off the list of foods we can eat. I was eating white rice for breakfast now and then last summer. I don't know if it caused D or not. I did not notice any attacks from it. Then I cooked a chicken in the crock pot. Did fine till I used the stock to cook rice. I had one of my worst flares and the rice was the only thing it could be, if anything. I don't know if I will ever have the nerve to eat rice again. You might be fine with the mix again, Joe, but how would you get the nerve to try it??

Not necessarily. I went on a two-week chicken-rice elimination diet and I became sicker than I had ever been. It took months for my gut to recover. The problem wasn't the rice; it was the chicken. I am intolerant to eggs and should have considered that I might also be intolerant to chicken. Very few of us are intolerant to eggs, and even fewer are intolerant to chicken, but you should be aware of the possibility.

Very good point, Gloria. Thanks for mentioning it. I had chicken at least twice a week up to that point for about two months (one of the few things I could stomach at the time) and close to that often since, but that was the only major attack that I recall being associated with chicken. And it was the only time I had rice with it. I will have to go over my food diary.

Eggs have bothered me all of my life so I've always avoided them. I just had allergy testing done and I was not sensitive to egg white, egg yolk or chicken. Maybe the test is not reliable. I tested sensitive to coconut and it does not bother me a bit (that I know of). A few things on the test fit, though.

I think you're on to something.....

Robbie, I also can't eat chicken. It took me awhile to realize it because it seems so safe for most people here, but every time I try I have problems. I tested sensitive to eggs also, but recently ate duck eggs as you may have read, and had no problems. JoAnn

I did not realize that so many could not tolerate chicken, that would terrible as that is my staple for meat.

As a side question with thanksgiving coming up, how well is turkey generally tolerated?

Hi Joe,

So sorry to read about your latest setback - hope you're on the mend by now. Interesting about chicken - I'm kind of staying away from it for now - have lots of Costco chicken breast in the freezer, but have felt a little unsettled every time I've had it lately. However, one of my staples is GF smoked turkey breast - always have some in the refrigerator for an easy snack. It is one of the few things that seems to be totally safe for me at this point in time.

Warm regards,
Kari

Joe, I had a reaction to some turkey last year. When I spoke to Gloria on the phone last month, she said that Honeysuckle White does not bother her. I bought a Honesuckle White turkey breast and tried it and I seem to be fine with it also. That's the brand I will be buying. Also, my son-in-law has an uncle who raises turkeys and my daughter thinks she can get me a fresh turkey that no one has tampered with injection wise. JoAnn
