Interesting, MB..........I agree about the herd immunity with regard to vitamin D. As we get more people up to adequate levels of vitamin D, there will be less need for flu shots. Do you know of any vit. D preps that contain those trace metals he recommends taking? Thanks for sharing.
Love,
Polly
P.S. I am not getting the flu shot. Like you, my MC started soon after I had a vaccination (dT booster).
I'm not into tempting fate!

Right there with you Polly. No flu shots for the same reason. However, I am debating the pneumonia shot since it seems that my doc thinks it a good idea since I just got over it. Really don't want that shot either. Any thoughts about it from you - it would be appreciated?
Love, Maggie

No flu shot for me this fall. I have been taking three 1000 IU of D3 a day for the past several months but will be increasing it to five for the rest of the winter months.

Hmmmmmmm. Very interesting. I think I'll rely on the vitamin D, also.
I find it rather ironic that the foremost proponent of vitamin D sufficiency, doesn't have enough faith in what he advocates, to skip the flu shot. Since I'm convinced that he's sincere about vitamin D's qualities, that suggests that he may feel very insecure about his own health, for some unknown psychological reason. I suspect the following quote from that article, sums up the basis of his attitude on influenza:
Believe me, even if your vitamin D level was perfect (whatever that is) and you had the flu shot, it would be easy to spray enough virulent influenza virus down your lungs to kill you quick.
That's a rather morbid, maybe even fatalistic way to view the risk.

Mary Beth - thanks for posting that article - it reminded me of my intention to start taking vitamin D (I don't take the flue shot). My SO has a bottle of Bluebonnet Vitamin D3/2000 IU Softgels. They are free of corn/yeast/gluten/barley/rice/sodium/sugar, but lists Soybean Oil as an ingredient. Can anyone recommend a "safe" brand for us with multiple intolerances???
Thanks for any advice,
Kari

I use Freeda vitamins online. They are free from all of our intolerances. I think Gloria mentioned that they now have a 5000 IU tablet. Perfect, since this is Dr. Cannell's recommended daily winter dose.

Polly
P.S. Tex, I had the same thoughts you did about this recommendation. It might be a CYA move. IOW, if he publicly stated that flu shots were not needed with adequate vitamin D, that could set him up for lawsuits. Plus, I'm sure a lot of folks wouldn't really have the kind of D vevels that would be protective. I think std. medical advice now still doesn't go above 40 ng/dl, while we know that the levels probably should be upwards of 90 ng/dl.

Unlike some of you, I do not think these scientists are crooks, all bought off by the vaccine industry, anymore than I have been bought off by the vitamin D industry. I'll continue to get my flu shot and I'll continue to take my vitamin D.
Interesting that Dr. Cannell would say that because my first thought was "follow the money." Not speaking of Dr. Cannell, but of the vaccine advocates. It reminds me of a friend of mine who works in the biotechnology industry in St. Louis. He believes totally in GMO products because he has been personally assured by the powers that be at Monsanto that GMO is the best thing to hit agriculture since God created the earth.

Thanks Polly - called Freeda, and found one place in the Denver area that sells their products - however, they only had the 1000 IU tablets. So I ordered them directly from Freeda - whatever did we do before the internet???:):):).

I use Country Life Vitamin D3 5,000 IU. It is free of all allergens (yeast, wheat, soy, gluten, milk, salt, sugar, starch, preservatives, or artificial color.) I have found the Country Life brand to be an economical, high quality, brand free of intolerances for most of my supplements. JoAnn

Thank you JoAnn - great to know for future reference as they sell the brand at my local Natural Grocers store. I'm new to the world of supplements - just started taking B12 and Folic Acid on the recommendation of my Neurologist. Now I'll add the D.
Warm regards,
Kari

I didn't get the flu shot this year or last year. I'm retired and am not around that many people anymore, so I presume I'm at less risk.

I got the pneumonia shot the winter after I had double pneumonia in 2006. Last December I got pneumonia, so the shot didn't prevent it. But, it wasn't as severe of a case as I'd had before. I recall that a week after I was diagnosed and on antibiotics, I attended a family get-together and no one realized that I had pneumonia. I believe the shot helped reduce the severity.

I am wondering if anyone here got the Shingles shot. DH and I got it about two years ago. Yesterday a friend from church announced he had shingles. That reminded me of the shot.

I've been wanting to get the Shingles shot because it can be so painful if you get Shingles. It also takes forever to get rid of them. The shot is very expensive, and it's not covered by insurance as far as I know. That's why I haven't gotten it yet.
