Has anyone done a yeast overgrowth diet?

Post by IDreamInColor »

I've been reading about systemic yeast overgrowth and the problem it causes. I'm seriously considering doing the anti yeast diet after the holidays and see what happens.
My enterolab says I'm sensitive to yeast, and Tex with his most appreciated knowledge suggests it may be a yeast overgrowth causing the test to be positive, so I'm thinking an anti yeast diet would be in order. Question Tex...if I am able to get the yeast overgrowth under control, would that eliminate the yeast sensitivity?
I'm going to research this diet, but I have a feeling there won't be many foods that would be ok for the anti-yeast diet.

I don't know what it would do to subsequent stool test results, but yes, our accumulated experience has shown that for virtually all of us, resolving the symptoms generally eliminates a yeast-sensitivity problem. And yes, it's a tough diet.

Several members have in the past been diagnosed with a yeast overgrowth, and they were successfully treated by both diet and an anti-fungal medication. Others have suspected it, and tried various treatments, (usually a combination of diet and natural anti-fungals).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Yes, my daughter was diagnosed with it and only diet has helped. The anti-fungal medications actually made her worse; the bacteria actually reacted more when using the medication. Personally the diet is no harder than what we are all doing now to get to remission and I followed it pretty closely prior to MC. My daughter feels sorry for me today with the little food I can eat!

She is now in her forth year and is doing well. She only eats yeast free bread & bagels, rice pasta, lean meats and mostly veggies and fruits. The Paleo diet would be perfect to use.

She takes enzymes between meals and takes L-Glutamine in the morning. We have tried many things, but this seems to work the best for her condition. Her diet is the most important part of her well being.

Recently she had to take an antibiotic for an infection and we were pretty scared that this would set her off, but not at all; she breezed right through it without any problems.

Now, its not to say she doesn't have flare ups like we do, but we can usually pinpoint it to how many sodas she has had, or did she eat out a couple of times in a row. or too much bread.

Hope this helps, Ginny

How did they get the diagnosis of the yeast overgrowth? Is there an actual test for it?

In 2004, I had a yeast infection I could not get rid of and I did a yeast overgrowth diet. It worked. I stayed on it for about two months. I have not had a yeast infection since.

Yes, they did a test her for yeast, milk, corn etc., I am assuming similar to Enterolab testing. One more thing, she also drinks a lot of Pau d'Arc tea. That was recommended as well. She does not touch any fruit drinks and we check everything for sugar content. In the beginning she ate mostly veggies and meat. However, like me, she loss a lot of weight she could not afford, but she is stable now.

We went to a specialist for Candida overgrowth Ginny

PS She have a vaginal infection for over a year and no antibiotic would cure it.
