I have mild, chronic low back pain, but it doesn't seem to get worse with menstrual changes. It gets worse if I accidentally eat gluten. I suffered bad menstrual cramps until I had kids. Now my periods are relatively painless, although they totally aggravate my LC. Towards the end of my cycle, things start fiming up, then when my period hits, it's back to watery, crampy D for a day or two. I think the prostaglandins involved in the uterine cramping also cause the large bowel to cramp, due to their proximity.

You know, I was just looking around this site and was on the verge of posting another thread about something similar.
I have LC too and am finding my periods to be more painful since I developed symptoms than before. And was just wondering if anyone knew what painkillers would be good to take as I am struggling to deal with thie pain and can't take NSAIDS for obvious reasons.
I am planning to go to the dr's about this, but what with how new year has fallen and the UK bank holidays I cannot ring to get an appointment until the 4th :(

Sorry to hear you're in pain, Naty-Katy, dear.
Way back when, I took Naproxin for my cramps, which is a no-no and probably part of the reason I have MC today, so other than the old hot water bottle, not sure what to suggest. It seems to me that I heard somewhere that acupuncture/acupressure can help...

Hi Lisa,
One member here had a lot of problems like you describe, which were apparently due to endometriosis in her case. ( Endometriosis occurs when uterine tissue is found outside of the uterus - it can be anywhere in the addomen). After trying numerous meds/hormones, I believe, she eventually had surgery which corrected the problem.
Hey there, Naty-Katy!
That's one of the biggest problems with MC and pain - no safe painkillers other than Tylenol (which does nothing for me). Some women find less pain if they cut down on salt just prior to getting their periods. Progesterone, the hormone released just before your period, makes the body retain salt. The more salt-logged tissues are, the more likely pain can result.
Love,
Polly
