Gluten Sensitivity Gene Test
HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0302
HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0603
Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 8,6)
Interpretation Of HLA-DQ Testing: HLA-DQB1 gene analysis reveals that you have one of the main genes that predisposes to gluten sensitivity and celiac sprue, HLA-DQB1*0201 or HLA-DQB1*0302. Each of your offspring has a 50% chance of receiving this gene from you, and at least one of your parents passed it to you. You also have a non-celiac gene predisposing to gluten sensitivity (any DQ1, DQ2 not by HLA-DQB1*0201, or DQ3 not by HLA-DQB1*0302). Having one celiac gene and one gluten sensitive gene, means that each of your parents, and all of your children (if you have them) will possess at least one copy of a gluten sensitive gene. Having two copies also means there is an even stronger predisposition to gluten sensitivity than having one gene and the resultant immunologic gluten sensitivity or celiac disease may be more severe. This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the American Red Cross - Northeast Division. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Major bummer.... has she started reacting to gluten at all? Or is it early enough to stop damage before it starts? That is, if I'm reading the report correctly.

Hmmmmmmmmm. So your husband has a celiac gene, (DQ8), and she inherited that DQB1*0603 gene from you. I see that it is claimed to be protective against many autoimmune diseases, and also affords some protection to HIV infection.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I thought it was supposed to predispose to neurological things. EL read me a list of them after I learned about 0603 when Connie was diagnosed.
I need to do a PP search.
Both of us have hypothyroid.
So, can she get Celiac Disease with only one gene? I guess she's pretty much looking at MC if something triggers it. OMG, she is under so much stress right now in corporate America. They want her to work 24/7. In fact, they fired her boss for not wanting to work around the clock.

That may be, but it never hurts to mention the positive attributes, once in a while.Joan wrote:I thought it was supposed to predispose to neurological things.
Sure, but it only makes the disease possible, it's not sufficient to guarantee that the disease will develop. Hopefully, stress is not a trigger for celiac disease, though it's beginning to appear that it may well be a trigger for MC.Joan wrote:So, can she get Celiac Disease with only one gene?

Incidentally, I missed that comment about Dr. Hadjivassiliou the first time around. Did you ever locate that article she was referring to? If not, here it is, (at least I think this the one she was referring to).
