I believe 9mg. Of entocort is too high. Ihave been nauseous, major insomnia, muscle pains, etc. I'm going to cut it down myself, is it possible for the dose to be too high

Lisa,

Some here have found that 9 mg. of Entocort a day is too high, but they are able to tolerate 6 mg. a day. You can try reducing it to see if it makes a difference with your discomfort. Warning: you'll need to adhere very closely to a strict diet on 6 mg. a day. Any slip up will cause an increase in D.

Lisa,

Some people are more sensitive to budesonide, (the active ingredient in Entocort EC), than the average individual. We have a few members who had to limit their starting dose, for that reason. One member, for example, has never been able to take more than 3mg per day, right from the start. Unfortunately, though, some people who are overly-sensitive to it derive no benefits from it at a reduced dose. IOW, they're just intolerant of it, and they can't use the drug. If you can still get benefits from it, at a reduced dosage rate, without adverse neurological effects, then you would be luckier than many, because some of us simply can't use it, because of the neurological effects.

As Gloria pointed out, you will have to experiment to see if you can find a dose that works, without the neurological effects.

I just feel horrible. I had tried taking remeron the two nights before and I dont know if that had anything to do with it. Yesterday I was food shopping and I got nauseas and had to run to the bathroom. When I had a BM it was just mucus. Of course I couldnt sleep again last night but stayed in bed anyway. I went to the bathroom like 5 times already this morning and it is all watery D with huge long blobs of mucus. Does that sound familiar to anyone.

Lisa,

When I first started taking Entocort at 9mg I felt like I was having an anaphylactic reaction. I was tired, brain fogged, tongue-tied, etc. My wife took me to the ER and they though I was having a stroke.

But since nothing bad showed up in any of their tests, I just pushed through to give the meds a chance to work. And the side effects waned.

But I do feel better at 6mg. I'm just not sure that 6mg is as good for my GI though.

Good luck, hang in there, we are all with you.

"Does that sound familiar to anyone?"

Heck YES - This is a hard disease and patience is one of the things we need to have to endure it. There are no quick fixes or miracle cures for it. Many years with it has taught me and others that. I cannot take Entocort but am in the minority for that. Diet is my only crutch with this disease.

Hope you are doing better and sort the way you will deal with your LC.

Lisa, I have been taking Entocort now for about 14 months and when I first started I was switching from Prednisone and only took 6 mg of Entocort which was fine. On one of the bad days I decided to take 9mg and about 3 hours later I was so sick, had to leave work and went home to bed; have not tried that dosage again. Since then I have managed on 6 mg or 3 mg with the help of Imodium (the original; no lactose).

I am grateful that the lower dosage helps or working could be a problem. Good luck and keep us posted. Ginny

Hello Lisa, I think I am that one member tex is talking about, yes it is very good possible that 9 mg is a too high dose for you. I recognize some of the side effects you are describing, the nauseous. I also was a bit dizzy (its more the combination of dizziness and nauseousness). Insomnia and musle pain, I never got that fair, because on the second day all called my GI and he suggested to lower the dose from two to one pill a day (what was my idea too).

I was (and still am) that a lower dose worked (and still works) too.

I hope a lower dosage of entocort will solve your side effect problems and still be enough to control your MC.

Good luck with it
