Anyone had a light headed feeling when eating semi-forbidden
Hi All,
My dh took me out to dinner last night - he had a business meeting and wanted me there.... yeah!
I never cheat GF wise - always eat GF! We went to Outback and they are great about GF! Anyway, I know most of what I had is not on my list of should eats, for example a salad with spicy ranch dressing, alice springs chicken - mushrooms, bacon, cheese, honey mustard sauce and of course a baked potato with the works! I am supposed to be GF, DF and nightshade free. I noticed halfway thru the meal I got kind of a mini-vertigo feeling - went quickly, but I remember noticing it other times I've eaten out - yes, that's my fav meal - so I always eat that one! I just don't know if it was a coincidence or if the foods/my bodies reaction would have caused that. I took plenty of digestive enzymes before and after as well as lactaid.
I certainly don't regret going out, I'm grateful I made it home before I had to rush to the bathroom. Lately I've had to rush, my D isn't always watery like before taking the Apriso, but still urgent enough. Must be something else causing this in my diet - yikes! lol
Thanks much - have a warm and sunny day! Theresa in ME

Therese,
Bummer about reacting to your favorite meal
I've definitley had that dizzy, light-headed feeling in the past. I hadn't figured out all of my sensitivites at that time so I was reacting to foods like soy and tapioca. It stopped once I removed offending fods and my GI symptoms calmed down. In your case it sounds like dairy might be the problem.

Hi Theresa!
Glad you got out. Although Outback is GF, you have many other intolerances that it appears you were exposed to. Yes, I have had that feeling when eating out - I describe it as lightheadedness or as feeling as if I am "fading out". With me, it usually occurs just prior to having a D attack. I have wondered if a sudden shift of gut contents, or perhaps of water rushing into the gut, causes sudden electrolyte disturbances. Electrolyte disturbances are known to cause dizziness, etc.
Another longshot is MSG. Some folks react to MSG in that way.
Love,
Polly

Mary Beth and Polly, Thanks so much! Yes, I am sure the dairy wasn't the best for me - I just never put it all together until last night about the light-headed feeling. It is hard when eating out because you don't know what little things may be in the foods, I feel like I'm sensitive to the world! lol. Polly, I'm glad you mentioned having that sensation just before a major D - I had that the other night when I had eaten popcorn balls - homemade of course. I'm not sure if it was the corn syrup, the popcorn, the butter - or all of the above. It kind of scared me - I barely made it to the bathroom - yucky mess for sure. I will be giving my system a rest today, plain chicken, chicken soup and SCd jello. I do feel starving even after eating - must be something I ate last night. I'm just rather sad, it's my favorite meal. I really love using dairy products. Oh well, I know it could be way worse, so I'll just deal with it today, I can do it.
THanks again T

Cheese was the biggest loss for me, too. And I had a dream about cheese!
This disease sure makes us weird, but it's reassuring to know it's not just me! LOL!
Love,
Polly
P.S. Theresa, I hope you are doing better today.

Oh yes, I am so glad i am not the only one dreaming about food! We are all in this together aren't we! I try to make a deal with my body - "I will give up dairy and eggs if I can have onions and peppers - hot peppers!" So far, it's not working - but, worth a try!! lol I even said I'd give up sugars for the spicy stuff!
I am doing better today - thank you - much better as the day went on - I eat the SCD jello and that really settles my gut and stomach.
I am just so afraid to add anything to my diet. I have kept rice out for a bit - but, I feel I need to try it again! but, I'm so scared - that doesn't help either.
Thanks again for your help and support! T

I miss veggies the most but cheese is definitely a close second. Mary Beth I love what you said about "I want a big gooey cheese pizza on my deathbed"
I'm a lot closer to that than you so maybe I should start planning now... my "deathbed meal" ..Hey, it'll give me something to look forward to!
