Thanks everyone for your support and well wishes.

I think I figured out what caused my short-lived as it was (thank goodness!) flare. I boiled up a ham bone the other day and made soup. I was craving ham and split pea soup, and so, as I always have, put in some of that old fashioned homemade soup mix stuff with yellow split peas, barley and little letters in it.. need I say more...? The soup was delicious but if it wasn't the PEAS that got me (somehow I just never twigged that these little spit yellow things were actually peas, which I cannot eat) then it was the BARLEY or the little WHEAT NOODLE letters! DUH!

It seems that my learning curve is still not over!

 I can't believe you did that. It just goes to show once again - old habits are hard to break. At least you caught it before it happened again. It's the routines that we're comfortable with that are the most likely to lull us into overlooking something.

Yes it is so true...just going on auto-pilot, and this was the first time I have made that soup since going GF. Because I can eat my homemade soups, in my mind soup was "safe" . I was not looking for any contaminants.

I just had a laugh because I read the quote at the bottom of your post, Tex, and it says exactly the same thing!
The most erroneous stories (soups) are those we think we know best -- and therefore never scrutinize or question.
