Advice anyone............
I suppose that since I just finished reading several book by Dr. David Brownstein, I have developed an interest in finding an MD with strong holistic leanings.
I've done a search for this area (as wide as feel I can reasonably travel on a regular basis) but how can you tell if the Dr is what you are looking for. I presume all these Dr's charge a consultation fee just to talk to them and I'll bet that can be pretty pricey. Then, if you decide to go with one, I'm sure there will be lots of tests looking for vitamin, mineral balance, etc. Plus there may be hormone level tests. ACK!! Is it worth it? Should I just keep on doing what I've been doing? Just guessing at what might be needed.
I'd love to get off my PPI (but I'm afraid because of Barretts Esophagus). Perhaps a good holistic Doc could help me with that. If I could accomplish what I think could possibly be accomplished by getting everything regulated properly it would be worth the cost. I just hate to make 2 or 3 efforts that come to nothing.
Anybody have any suggestions/comments.
I did send an e-mail on Dr. Brownstein's website asking if he knew of any in my area but did not hear back. I didn't really expect to, just thought I'd try it.
Changes I am making now include using unrefined salt, unrefined sugar and unrefined oils (as much as possible although I didn't use much of those before).
Love, Shirley

Hi Shirley;
I just notice your post was unanswered and was wondering how you made out in finding an MD with holistic leanings. Sorry I can be of no help there. Or have you had any luck getting off the PPI? How did the switching to unrefined salt, sugar and oil work?

Hi Shirley,
Sorry but I don't know offhand of anyone near us. I'm off to clinic but will try to see if I can help you find someone later.
BTW, we are having some activity again in the cave - Paleo Diet forum. Please drop by and chat a bit!
Love,
Polly

Thank you, ladies.
Been very busy and tired lately so haven't been keeping up as well as usual. Daughter & family are coming in on Monday and I have a lot to do yet. At least I finally got the tree up and decorations out.
I haven't really had any luck finding the kind of doctor I'm looking for around here. I've done several searches on different sites but I seem to live in a "black hole" for natural healing. HaHa Philadelphia seems to have plenty though. HaHa
I have read the "cave" posts and I'm glad there is some action there. Also some great ideas.
Thanks for all the support.
I have been being more diligent with gluten and soy for the last couple of weeks but ,if anything, I'd have to say there has been no improvement (not that it was bad anyway) and perhaps a bit of "stepping back". Rough time coming up for the next week and a half since 5 people (my sister is also coming) are going to be eating all kinds of good tasting stuff in my house. HaHa I'm sure I'll survive it though.
I'm not likely to be on too much untill all this is over but I always keep all of you in my heart.

Shirley,
I was lucky to find a DO via a recommendation from a friend - she hadn't gone to see him yet, but had done some research. She just had baby #4 today, or else I would ask her for direction. I will when I can. We are also blessed to live near a medical school and had 2 med students who were looking to focus on the more natural approach - one studied with a DO that is amazing, but this DO said that mine was the best at dealing with food allergies, GI stuff, autism etc. My DO starts most folks off with a GF, dairy free diet - the dairy is really hard for a healed body to digest, let alone an inflammed one. Yeah, I cry over not having dairy, but I want healing more, some day I hope/know I will be able to let dairy in my life! Maybe cut out dairy and or eggs? Those seem to be biggies. I see you already keep soy out - me too!
I don't know if I was helpful at all. Sorry! I wish you luck in finding a good dr for your needs.

Hi Shirley,
Have a wonderful time with your family! Happy holidays!!! After the new year I will ask around and see if I can find some recommendations in your area. Exactly what is your area? Also, do you want an MD, DO, naturopath, or do you not care? I think the best way is through recommendation from someone you know. There is so much variation in qualifications and approaches among those interested in alternative medicine. I don't think Barb was happy with her experience, but I guess it all depends on whom one sees. I agree about not wanting to do unnecessary/expensive tests/treatments. Also I never trust a practitioner who has something to sell and profit from.
