Let it Snow Let it Snow...

Post by Joefnh »

Well our first large snowstorm of the season has passed. Its a great excuse to relax and get some rest.

Here are a few images from this blizzard.

I used my pocket camera as I did not want snow on my good cameras lens. Nestle did not even want to go out as the wind chill made it feel about -36F (-34C).

A few birds still coming back for food even in the cold and wind

Wow Joe, great pictures and what a lot of snow over there. Is that normal where you live, to get this amount of snow every winter? I agree with nurse nestle, it looks really to cold to out

Joe your yard looks like mine!!! The winds were crazy - I felt like I was at the ocean with tremendous waves! Our windows were rattling all night long! I am grateful we did not lose power! What a treat! We had at least a foot, if not more! Some areas of our yard up to 2 feet! Yes Harma, this is normal for the NorthEast - oh yeah! It's only just begun! LOL!

Stay warm and safe Joe! I have work early tomorrow am - but, I am sure all will be well by then!

I'm gonna have to say that Nurse Nestle knows best - that looks plenty cold.

Wow - that's quite a snowfall! I'd stay warm and snuggled up with nurse Nestle if I were you.

Lovely pictures, though.

Hi Harma, yes this is typical for this area. This is on the larger side of the storms we get but for any given winter season we will get 3- 4 meters of snow.

Theressa you are right it is windy - my weather gauge is still showing gusts into the 50 mph range. You are not too far away at all in southern Maine. I have a house I partly own in Georgetown near Brunswick. I vacation up there each summer for a few weeks.

Tex & Gloria it is cold... Nurse Nestle is certainly smarter than I am. She would not even go out while I shoveled. Right now I have a fire going and am sitting in the living room with my laptop, its quite windy outside but nice and warm inside; Nestle is sound asleep right next to me enjoying the fire.

Is good to hear you are doing well Tex.

Brrr!! I am so glad that I have lived in the lowlands of the PNW for the last nine years. There have only been a couple of episodes where the snow did not behave itself and stay in the mountains so we could go play in it but not have to drive it. I well remember what winters are like in the Midwest and the East, though.

I have a friend who recently went home to Mongolia. He lives with his family in a yurt, and has to travel to civilization to use the internet. He said a few days ago that it was -35 degrees C. I imagine that you are glad to live in a house instead of a yurt with wind chill temps that cold.

Morning Joe,

Kind of looks like what we got but your temps were much better than ours. It was 22 F and the wind chill had it down to 3 F with 40-50 mph gusts. Shovelling was no fun. You know when they cancel a prime time NFL game things are bad.

Thanks so much for the pictures.

Love, Maggie

Hi Joe,

Well, guess I'm one of those "weird" people who actually loves a good winter storm - your pix are fabulous.

I remember at times coming to our country place in the Adirondacks (that's where my late husband and I had planned to retire) and finding the house practically buried in snow. We had a neighbor keep our entrance to the front door plowed, so we could easily enter the house. As soon as we got inside, we'd light the wood stove, put on some music, cook up some good food, and enjoyed looking out the windows from our warm little cave :).

As you can tell, your pix brought back some fond memories - thanks so much for posting them.

Love,
Kari

Joe,
You got more than we did here in Central Vermont, we only got about 7 inches.
But our yard looked like yours does last year and I suspect will later this year.
Thanks for the photos.

Hi Andi, yeah this was a classic nor'easter which is a very intense coastal storm. The closer you are to the coast the more snow you will probably get. I think I am about 80 miles closer to the coast. Of course in central Vermont your winter months are a bit longer than here in NH.

Love the photo's Joe. Thanks for posting them.

Of course, in this part of the world we are finally getting our first days over 30C (86F). Summer has been slow getting going this year, but it is now lovely and sunny, and still not too hot yet.

Great pics Joe. It started snowing the night before we were leaving but luckily we only got 5 inches in PA and we made it out OK. I can vouch for the bitter cold . . . .brrr!
